Out of the small bird group, the goldfinches seems to be alot more in numbers than the other small birds that are feeding in my back garden, is this unusual?

    Same for me.

Siskins and Redpolls still have lots to eat in Alder cones. With so much grain not harvested in the countryside Linnets are out there eating it.

They will come when the snow comes

I had around 40-50 Goldfinches everyday over the weekend

Only started feeding in the last few weeks but getting plenty goldfinches. Lots of great tits, blue tits and sparrows also. Goldfinch is a stunning looking bird though!

I think Goldfinches are quite social birds in the winter and would
generally flock together, maybe the reason you are seeing more of
them, they tend to go their own separate ways in the spring when
    the mating season starts.

I miss the Greenfinch. Haven't seen one in a few years

Also Bullfinch. Vanished this neck of the woods.
