Bought a second hand sky plus box

    Hi

Bought a second hand sky plus box for my parents who just have regular sky. Wanted to give them the plus without going through sky (cheaper)

Box to arrive tomorrow. Starting to doubt my purchase now. Should it work if I just switch the boxes? It came from the uk if that makes any difference. Do sky need to do anything to activate it?

    Many thanks

It won't record without increasing the sub price to Sky.
You may have wasted your money.

That is a load of nonsense, there is no extra subscription price for the use of Sky + features anymore. However to make full use of a sky+ box you will need to put a quad lnb on your dish and run a second cable to the room the box is to be installed to.

You then need to ring Sky and tell them that you have switched your box to a sky + box and they will ask you for the box serial no and version no and your sky card no. Tell them to enable the skyplus features and you are done.

Without a quad lnb and a second feed, you will only be able to record whatever you are watching...

Thanks for the replies. Should have known it wouldn't be as straight forward.

How easy is it to put a quad lnb on your dish? Is it something I ( or prob my brother) can do or have someone else do (roughly how much?

    Thanks for the replies!!

All depends what your current dish, lnb situation is.

Our single lnb required some brute force to remove it back in the day, lol.
Was up 10 or so years and probably got welded on coz of the elements. :P

If you can manage to remove it though and install the quad, then you've already solved half the battle.

Please be advised though, that installing the quad will may mean you'll lose your sat signal and you'll need to re-align your dish again.

My humble apologies, I don't / won't sub to MurdochVision.

It's your property so make sure they do leave it.
