Does anyone have any experience of ETWB valuing their car for insurance reasons?

I had the misfortune of having to deal with them once. They are impossible to contact, you get through to a different person every time.

They go to the usual websites and take the cheapest valuation and will not budge from that. They will also quote you for a car at the opposite end of the country. I explained to them that I could not get from Kerry to Mayo to buy the car that they had seen so in fairness to them they increased the offer, by €50!!!

Yup, they seem to be awful. Anyone been successful in getting an accurate valuation of their car?

I am going through my claim now. they quote the cheapest advertised car on net. And so arrogant that in my first contact with them , asked me to go to solicitor if i don't accept the ridiculously low quote they gave me. They are a bunch of bully s. Base their business model on claimant's reluctance to go to solicitors and the arbitration process, and insurance company's need to cut costs. will post how my claim is settled , once its done.

I finally got a fair valuation from them. It was still on the low side but I was happy with it.

I refused to deal with them, and told them that they are not a party to the contract. so wont accept or reject their offer. Then the
y suddenly became polite and were asking for decision as coutasy . will ring insurance company and see how it goes.

I got decent valuation from the insurance company itself, after i refused to deal with etwb . I would advise anyone who had to deal with ETWB , just refuse to deal with them. You always get a better offer from insurance than with etwb. Etwb saves money for the insurance company at the cost of claimants.

Came to this thread, although it's a year old, after googling ETWB. I'm dealing with them because of an 123.ie motor claim for a vehicle written off. Their value is lower but what I thought was a bit mad was, I asked them how they're calculating their value and they said they're taking the values from donedeal.ie

Surely they should be looking at cgb.ie or carzone.ie

    Dear Seller567,
My advice would be just refuse to deal with them , do not say yes or no.Ask them to bug off. You will definitely get a better offer from insurance company. The insurance company cannot push you to deal with them.
In my case, ETWB person got rude and were argumentative when i presented them evidence which contradicts their position. I just told them i will not deal with them. I told the insurance company that they cannot push me to deal with some third party. And said the whole process has to start again.
How can they base their decision on done deal ? that too only taking into account the cheapest examples?
We should discourage insurance companies to tie up with these kind of companies.

I also had the mis-fortune to deal with ETWB recently regarding a poor valuation. I've invoiced them for 2 hours of my consultancy (must chase that up).

I put in a complaint to both 123.ie and RSA regarding ETWB and their poor valuation, which was based on an inferior specification of the car written off (poor research) and them thinking there was a huge discount available for cash buyers (proved wrong by actually speaking to the dealers involved).

Still waiting for the outcome of my complaint against them. Settlement was immediately passed back to 123 and I've been dealing with them since. Came back with a better value (€2,000 more than ETWB), but I'm still fighting with 123 about the value. Ended up appointing my own assesor as they wouldn't believe values and information I'd provided.

Seller567 - if you want to PM me about the details involved, I'll have a look in to it for you - I work in the motor industry and a large part of my job is to do with valuing used cars.

I'm disgusted with the service provided by 123 and especially ETWB - farming out this type of work to a company with no understanding of the Irish Motor industry is a terrible practice in my opninion. Wonder how many people they have managed to rip off with p1ss poor valuations.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know I could refuse to deal with them. I'd be embarrassed pming you as we're literally taking about a different of €400 but unfortunately it's too much of a difference for me. I had the value of the car at €2,000, which I feel is very accurate.

I have looked on carzone and only one car out of eight are up at less than €2,000. The excess is €300 on the policy which is fair enough. I'd end up with €1,300 for a car that I feel was correctly valued at €2,000. I know it's only small change. I've emailed them through all the links to the other cars and am waiting for their response now.

If you need a hand, let me know.

I'm arguing over €750 on a €24k claim - and it's purely beacuse they fcuked me around to begin with. It's now cost them an additional €100 for the Assesor I appointed.

Hi, I also got caught dealing with them last year, having researched them on internet and here, I told them that i didn't have to deal with them (after lousy pre accident value on my car, time wasting), went straight back to RSA and ignored their phonecalls, made complaint to 123.ie, in end got extra 2000 euro for my car from RSA (RSA assessor re-valued car), so good advice.....tell them you neither have to accept or reject their offer as they are third party, deal directly with insurance company. Also, as my car was an uneconomic insurance repair, they (RSA) suggested I sell it to their appointed salvage company (supposed to be highest bidder), I refused this offer and kept car myself, sold it to salvage company myself for extra 800 euros!

Interesting Ballylad. I have been offered €460 salvage for the car from 123.ie directly themselves. So that and the excess would be deducted from the ETWB valuation.

ETWB came back and offering another €200 so upped it to €1,800. I said no again, and that I'll only deal with 123 / RSA now. 123's valuer is to look at the values tomorrow. What salvage company did you use.

Hi think it was m7 salvage near Naas, you could always advertise it as damaged reparable on Donedeal , discovered my car had been resold by salvage company to another guy and readvertised for 1500 euro extra. Insurance company will always try and make money out of it, if you didn't have your wits about you, it would cost you a lot of money accepting etwb offer.

Thanks Ballylad. I finally got the €2,000, that I had the car insured for. Had loads of links from carzone for identical cars. They're such a shower of chancers. Honestly you'd really want to have your wits about you dealing with these companies. I could see an awful lot of people just accepting the first offer, without really pushing them.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

    Glad you eventually got sorted.

I settled on Friday, not as much as I really wanted, but as we'd agreed figures on a new car I couldn't let the same argument drag on and on and on.

I eventually appointed an independant assesor myself and settled halfway between the values he'd said. €375 less than I'd been asking for, but €2,625 more than those wasters in ETWB offered initially.

Got a very good salvage price on ours. The guys where the car has been for the past 4 weeks couldn't match it, and make any money off it, so I accepted that offer on Friday as well.

Good Stuff R.O.R. The other half is at home this week with the kids on midterm and no car so I just went with their salvage offer to bring me back to my sum assured. I haven't got the fight in me to let this go on for weeks. We're both working and really need two cars on the road.

Off to see a 04 Volvo S40 this evening. So hoping we have a car over the next day or two.

Do you have any covereage for a hire car? We had up to €200, so I booked one via Budget, on line. Stupidly cheap at the moment. Booked one for 17 days that came to just over €200 (although there is a €28 airport collection charge).

Dropped it back on Saturday after 6 days and it came to €96 and cents. That was including the airport charge and insurance - worth looking at if you are near a Budget location. Was working out much cheaper than Enterprise would have been charging. Booked it online with 4 hours notice, then rang the branch to see if they had anything available immediately, and collect the car within 2 hours of making the booking.

Take your time buying, as you don't want to rush too much when buying a car.

Thanks R.O.R. We've used up the budget of €200, stupidly went with Enterprise at the start as other half had no way of getting to work in the middle of nowhere.

Will do the_syco. I'm convinced people are using photoshop on their car pictures. Went to see what looked like a spanky car on Saturday the the real version was very different.

hello i am new to boards but felt compelled to join after ETWB have only offered me €3000 for 06 Corolla. I have seen numerous on Carzone with high mileage 223kms plus for over €5000. they are now asking me to prove it ! i have sent them several links with even lesser spec. models making more than €5000. they sent me 1 ad. at €3000. i don't think that constitutes fair play or even credible reserach. i can't believe i have to do all this leg work and i also can't believe that Allianz use an English firm for this . what am i to do ? i have some bad injuries and cried yesterday when they made that ridiculous offer. i never had a days trouble with my trusty Toyota and was the 2nd lady owner, alloys, metallic paint, all mod cons etc. can't believe it . can anyone recommend a fair assessor in Ireland ?
    thanks

My simple advice would be, to tell them to not to bother you. No one ever got reasonable quote from them. Only deal with your insurance company.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 stepmother

Thanks gun 8844. i even sent them loads of examples of the lesser Terra model priced at €2000 more (mine is a Luna) and they said they would only accept my research of Luna models ! i explained that not everyone in Ireland is selling their Luna this week.... they are really awful. It is my insurance company that appointed them! I have told them i am not accepting it and to please get realistic. I wonder could my solicitor (personal injury) do anything or would that complicate matters? thanks again.
