I have an interview for a management role in a HSE healthcare organisation. I would love this job, although its a bit of a commute the shift work would be great and I would love to work there. So any tips? I have the job spec and its a competency based interview so I am expecting questions on how to handle various scenarios, anything else I should think about?
I am so delighted to get this interview, I signed on this morning for the first time ever and it was a depressing experience, so to get sorted so quickly would be fab!

Congrats on getting to the interview :)

The most important thing when you're preparing is to have lots of examples from your previous work to back up what you say. Competency-based interviews often ask you to 'Tell me about a time when...', so if you have examples ready to go it'll be a lot easier on the day.

Sit down and have a think about what you've done and write out a few examples. For a start, make sure you have something for:
    • Handling conflict
    • Something going wrong/not as planned
    • Achievement
    • Dealing with other departments/customers
    • Managing a heavy workload, and having to organise/prioritise
    • For a management role, have some examples of your management style and when it's helped you and your team

Make sure you know off the top of your head how many people you've managed, what their metrics were and how you tracked them. Interview prep is really all about refreshing your memory of what you've done and remembering how great you are!

    Good luck ;)

    Hi allgirlz,

I know this is an old post but I was searching healthcare and management and I came across your post!
Just wondering how did things turn out/did u get the job and if you can offer any advice...?
I currently work in the health sector ( I'm a nurse) and am hoping to move into a management position.
Even though I have healthcare experience and manage people on a daily basis I have never been in an 'official management' role.
I am just wondering what advice you could offer me in making myself a suitable candidate for this role?
I am willing to undertake a course but I don't want one that will take up to a year or 2 as I've already done the whole college thing (4 years undergraduate and 2 years postgraduate) and don't fancy another hard slog at the books!
Are there any courses specific to a management position in healthcare that you can advise on or what qualifications/experience/job spec did you have that made you stand out?

    ANY advice greatly appreciated!
