Satworld - extra costs

    Hi,

I was wondering what people's feelings on this were?

I opted for the full install package from satworld.ie
    http://satworld.ie/product-info.php?Combo_HD_UK_Irish_System_Installed-pid211.html

When they came over they said it would cost an extra €75 to install the satellite as they had to put it on the roof. But that would seem standard to me? Also the site makes no mention of extra potential costs. I haven't gone ahead with it yet. I just wanted to check if people thought this is reasonable?

    thanks

I would like to make clear that they did offer to put it on the garden wall for the original price. Our garden wall is not really suitable so I said no. As I know nothing of sats etc I always thought the dish went on the roof as standard. So I just wanted to get people's opinion on this

Did they mention anything when you rang to book the installation? Maybe it slipped your mind?

No, no mention of it. Just after they inspected my house was the first time they mentioned it

if the dish has to go on chimney it is no longer a standard install

There's typically no need to put a dish on the roof or looking over a roof from the rear unless there's no other suitable mounting site available or the customer prefers it for aesthetic reasons. You would have thought they'd be going on the roof with the terrestrial aerial anyway, though.

They should say the price is subject to a site survey.

Says who? How is the average customer supposed to know this unless they're told by the installer?

Did they make reference to your site being awkward or unusual in some way?

Their blurb states LIMITED OFFER ONLY €299.99 INCLUDING INSTALLATION!!

There should really be an asterisk after that if it's conditional.

    http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Ferguson_ariva_120_installed.html do a full install for €349.

If you can find a qualified / insured installer, you could possibly do a deal for installation if you purchase the dish & box yourself.

they just said that they weren't able to put it on the wall

and that they would need a ladder and another person

And this is a combined satellite & terrestrial install? Did they say where they were going to put the aerial?

    The Chimney I hope.

Seems a bit suspect to me as they would have to go on the roof to install the uhf antenna anyway not to many uhf's put on the side of houses.

This doesn't seem standard. Something you forgot to mention?

They can't expect the customer to know if they have a convenient view of 28 east (or a terrestrial transmitter either), the price should be subject to a site survey or else don't bother.

The offer on the site is a fixed price with no conditions attached.

How do you work that, hope the "easy" installs subsidise the awkward ones? Try to charge more or back out of the ones you don't like?

Oh, so what you're saying is if the installer goes to the house and it's a 4 storey or something you expect them to get another installer and fo it for 300 quid? interesting.

My reading of what they're saying is that the offer should be clearer, if it's only covering standard installations.

I see the page mentions 'standard installations only' now, although I would imagine this 'standard' can be changed whenever it suits the installer.

    ha

I see they have changed the wording after I politely suggested they do!

Nothing particularly unique about my house so I would have expected a standard installation. I understand that they are not doing extra work that is not required, I just find it irksome that the "totally inclusive" offer is not really all that inclusive

Whose standard though? Sky? How is the customer supposed to be aware of this?

If you took up the offer in its original form, you should get your €299 install & Satworld have learned a lesson.

So who said the dish needed to go on the roof?

They said that the dish needed to go on the roof.
I was trying to say that I believed that this extra work was justified
    but
    1. The offer was stated to be fully inclusive (they have subsequently changed the wording)
    2. I had no idea my job was anything out of the ordinary

Fair enough, just thought you'd changed your tune with that last post.

Yes, they made an unconditional offer & if it was me who made this offer, I would just say lesson learned & get on with it.
