Netbooks: What to avoid

I'm going to Malaysia for a few weeks and while I am not going to bring my laptop with me as its to big and I dont know if I will need it, I may decide, while I'm there, that I want a netbook to have something to do at night when I'm by myself (and to keep it light to bring it home).

If I do get one, I imagine that all I would want it to do is play video, Skype and browse the internet. I might try and play C&C red alert 1 on it for the laugh too. So nothing very intense, but I wouldn't want anything dead slow either(my sister has a dell netbook and despite only running XP with only a handfull of programs, it takes ages to turn and struggles with a lot of processes).

I realise that the nature of netbooks will mean I will need to compromise on various aspects, so to keep it simple, what brands of netbooks or processors etc should I avoid? (eg are emachines any good? is a 1.6Ghz processor too weak nowadays etc)

    Thank you.

Get a dual core Intel processor. N5xx I think is the designation but check that Your self. And check that it has a nvidia ion GFX card and two gigs of ram and you'll be set. Emachines are crap yes but other than that others should be fine. I always recommend Asus myself, but your its your choice. If you want something that'll probably be a little cheaper go for something with an AMD APU(combined CPU and gfx card), with the designation E-450 or above. either of these set up a should be below 400 euro. Watch out for knock offs.

Not a lot have 2gb of RAM but its an easy upgrade on most of them.

The Atom dual core chips are good. I am running the N550 and they are quite quick and silent as well as being very easy on the power.

For battery life a 6 cell battery would be good to get as makes a difference. I make good use out of it anyways as saves me have to carry a charger most days.

Acer have good reputation in the netbooks. I have the Acer Aspire D255 and find it brilliant and I use it every day. Never an issue.
