Getting a Distortion Pedal Directly to an Interface.

    Hey y'all,

I'm trying to get a small studio set up here in the house. It's got to be real quiet tho', as I'm still living with my Dad. And I don't think he appreciates the sound of heavy Punk as he's in his eighties.:D

Basically, I only use my guitar for writing (no stage work at all, as I'm a vocalist). But I'd like to put my distortion pedals directly into a midi interface and then on into Logic. A few of my distortion pedals already have an 'emulated out', so they can do that with no hassles. But it's limiting my sound options, as most of the other distortion pedals that I really like don't have that option, so then can't be plugged directly into a mixer/midi interface (without MICing it).

So I was looking at something like this:
    http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/products.php5?id=110

Does anyone know if that will do the trick? Basically allowing me to plug in any stomp box, to go through the red box and then go directly into my mini interface? Or are there any better options (that are not too expensive)?

Sorry for the long post, but any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Cheers,

    G.

How about getting a pair of wireless headphones so that you don't have to sacrifice too much volume?

Thanks man, but my whole set up is done through my headphones anyway, from a mixing perspective. I just really need a device that will allow my preferred distortion pedal to go directly into the interface without MICing the Amp up. I only ever use the bedroom studio here for writing tunz. The rehearsal is where the real noise happens. :)

I could go the software route of course, but I prefer the sound my stomp boxes to be honest. :)

    Thanks.

Look into using impulses and amp sims. You can plug your guitar pedal straight into your interface and put an impulse of a guitar cab to make it sound like it was miced up. There are plenty of free impulses and vst impulse loaders that you can use in your DAW. It does all the speaker and mic simulation you'll need.
What you posted is really just a DI box unless I'm missing something. That won't really help much, a channel of your interface probably has a DI already.

Thanks man... I'm not really going down the software rout tbh, because there's a few distortion pedals I'd really like to use. I have Guitar Rig 4 but I'm not all that mad about the distortion from it tbh. Cheers!

You can use the distortion from any of your pedals and into your interface. You emulate the speaker yourself later with software so it will sound decent the same way you were using the emulated out on your pedals instead of the normal output.

Nice one man, any idea how I can do that with Logic Pro at all?

    Thanks!
