The Incident

I witnessed an awful incident today. I saw cyclist in the bus lane, without a helmet or illuminous yellow vest! A passing bus swerved towards him to alert him to the danger he was causing, but he flagerantly kept going.

What if there was a young child in the approximate vacinity of the road, they could have been killed, or worse...

Who do all of you cyclists think you are? You don't even pay road tax & I once heard about a granny who was almost killed by a cyclist doing more than 40mph down a footpath while breaking a red light! You should all be ashamed!

The cycling tax, due to be announed later today will consist of a weight tax based on the riders weight. The skinnier the rider the more they will pay - because they are obviously using their bike too much.

There will be an 81% tax on all protective vests and polystyrene caps, which will be made mandatory for all cyclists (pedestrians will also be expected to wear the same in next years budget, as well as non slip shoes)

Other divers will be able to identify bicyclists who have paid the tax by the sticker to be placed on their forehead - which will be illuminated by a rear facing light mounted on the handlebars (aslo taxed at 81%)

Emoticons are to be taxed on a usage basis, with credits available to purchase from Easygate...

MDS, or multiple death syndrome, you obviously haven't heard of that cyclist who was killed 17 times in the same day because he forgot his high vis vest

It has also been brought to the attention of the department of the environment, dept of finance & other various overpaib gob****es that cyclists are abusing their position on the countries transport system by cyclisng on both roadways & footpaths, while there are clearly maked and specifically designed cycleways provided...

In order to solve this abuse of our carriage way system a series of bespoke cycleways are to be provided for all cyclists to use. These cycleways will provided for the sole use of cyclists who will no longer have access to any roadway or footpath. These cycleways will be situated in Leitrim.

Mountainbikers will be charged and extra tax as they garner more pleasure from their activities and represent a higher burden on the health/A&E system (unconfirmed speculation), the countries cycleways (situated in Leitrim) will be closed from general use on Sunday mornings to allow for recreational use by mountainbikers, who will subsequently be outlawed from Coilte lands - oh, they already are...

I never feel ashamed for the stupidity of other people.
It just makes me feel more superior.

Ah that's unfair on MTB'ers, we're already subject to heavy DIRT tax, get's worse in winter too! :D

If that was N4 eastbound before Ballyowen turnoff at 8:23 this morning, I was the thrill-seeker in question, and I have already written to the coach operator concerned (coaches from this Birr, Co. Offaly operator seem to delight in trying to discourage cycling in the bus lane in this manner)

Bikes should be registered, have a numberplate, and pay road tax and insurance. That will learn em.

I have seen a draft of the new legislation. In a concession the government have agreed that cyclists will not be confined to the Leitrim cycleways.

They will be permitted to use roadside footpaths footpads outside of school travel hours provided they are preceded at all times by a manservant on foot bearing a red flag.

Cool. We, in Leitrim, will no longer be the "poor relation".
I knew that the government would come up with a creative solution to sell the "50%" of houses in Leitrim that are currently on the market!!
