Rough Unedited Notes from My Build Log below

    ******************** BUILD LOG March-June 2011 ************************
    19th March

Bought Cab from Adverts.ie, see thread about this cab at:
    http://www.adverts.ie/other-consoles-games/last-bronx-arcade-machine/491683
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=71150321

    Delivery SAGA :)
Here's the 2nd Cabinet I got, It was like how Mr Bean would buy an arcade cabinet, Just oure comedy attempt.

Agreed Price on Adverts.ie, it was at a time I had only Debit Card so couldnt rent a van,
So instead I borrowed buddys peugeot 306 StationWagon, Lets just saw it wasnt exactly road worthy :)
It wasnt exactly built to carry a Sega Upright Cab, it hadnt been started in months, Tax'd??? Well lets just pretend that was all okey :)
Had to buy new Car Battery to get it going, drove up from Cork and 10 minutes from Dublin at 8pm on a Sunday,
pulled in for Petrol, and disaster struck, Wouldnt start again, turned out it had an imobilizser, 90 minutes later with some magic it started :)

Finally got to collect it and Cab was so heavy took us hour to get it out of the house,
Miracle No 1 Cab actually slid in with seats all down it pressed against rubber not a CM each side to spare
and for back hatchback door of course was inch 2 too big to in in so had to tie boot down.
Then all paid for time to head down the road to cork, but yet again, same thing, piece of ***t wouldnt start, holy crap another hour of magic with Key FOB and it started,
After 1pm -2am of drama, finally got Cab home, even lifted it out of Station Wagon and into house on my own, thank god for its CASTORS thats all I can say :)

    ********************************************************************************
    Initial Impressions after pickup:

Thought id share as I bought this Cab, its in perfect condition bar need to replace marquee light inside,
its gorgeous looking cab, my 1st upright and couldnt be happier.

Artwork and marquee all perfect, screen has no burn in, looks great.
Its Nanao 15/25htz screen. Last Bronz working perfectly bar Control panel needs replacing which I have all parts for,
so alls good. It even comes on 4 biggest caster wheels if ever seen, the thing is great to wheel around the house

So im delighted so far and cant wait to get this to a Mame Cab. Chuffed
Although was some dose to get down to cork with it in a 97 306 estate that hadnt been started in 4 months

PC via ARCADEVGA + VidAMP to Arcade Nanao MS8

Great Help here borads.ie from Purplec and others, LEGENDS!!!!
    http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=110694.new;topicseen#new
How to Connect a ArcadeVGA v2 Card to Nanao MS8-26SU Monitor from Sega Cab

But MAJOR ISSUE OCCURRED, Over last 3 weeks could not get the ArcadeVGA Card to Work.
I hit disaster with PC and ArcadeVGA, it worked with Nanao Monitor,
but couldnt get it to run DirectX, may be software, so no SF4 or frontends wouldnt work,
but after 30 hours troubleshooting, Andy at Ultimarc gave up too,

He sending me replacement ArcadeVGA Card this week, may be faulty one.

    ********************************************************************************
    27th April:

Issue was A FAULTY ARCADEVGA CARD,
Replacement ArcadeVga Card came and got it working within 10 minutes vs no lie 30 hrs trying to get old oen to run DirectX!!! :)
ATI Cat-uninstaller, reboot, installed arcadevga xp drivers and voila.

Also hooked up to Nanao all fine bar,
1 Horizontal too large, fix below i hope
2 Noticed a lower half wobble, fixed in threads i emailed maybe
3 Green Tint can be fixed by RGB Gain on Monitor POT

    28th April:
Took off glass, cleaned and same for bezel as glass had spots on it, very annoying.

Found all the POTS, and back screen and setting, Did below...
    http://www.aussiearcade.com.au/showthread.php/36373-How-do-I-adjust-horizontal-width
How do I adjust the horizontal size on this chassis? As you can see theres no H Size knob to adjust.

As others have pointed out you need the correct tool , Jaycar sell them they are called TV Alignment tools , they come as a set and only cost a few dollars.
The chassis is a Nanao MS8-26SU , one of the best chassis ever made and one of the hardest to replace ,
There is a Primary H-Size Jumper , look at the orange wire in the attached picture , it is a single pin jumper that can go on S or L , small or Large ,
this will nomally take care of any major H-Size issues , the adjustment on the front is only a H-Size fine tune control it has very little effect.

    ********************************************************************************
    6th May.
    15 hours later, did following
    1 Orange Jumper on Chassis,
    Move from NORMAL to NARROW
    HORIZONTAL 95% Fixed - AWESOME
    2 Front POTS reduced V.SIZE
Now 20% less screen used, but Green lines squashed to Top Line and invisable
3 RGB Colors, will play with this to fix COLOR Tinits
4 Vertical Games need you to change settings to lower resolutions and such
    1943 works fine now!!!
    http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=104323.0
352x288 for example Lose some as sud be 240 lines
5 Got GameEx Working Again - Disable ArcadeVGA Settings and Auto size or something
6 Cleaned all The Screen - Filty
    And bezel and glass screen
    7 PLAYED Some Games :)
    ********************************************************************************
    15th May
    Last 3 Nights

1st Bought tee Nuts and used drill and bit to drill the 1/4 bolts in the tee nuts
and it pulled em in flat against front facing wood.

What beauty of this did, is now I can attach mounting bracket from original cab to my Custom CP
and remove any time I wish without having to split up my CP layers.
As first layer is 18mm MDF, 2nd 2 mm chipboard that hides all the xarcade groves and tee nuts and
allows my artwork to lie flat, used some sticky dots to keep in inplace and then can place my Perspex on top.

    2nd
Spent nite cutting out teh Marvel art, as it has 100's characters it was tough to decide who got the chop
Only big lose was hulks face, but chosen position works perfectly, ITS AWESOME!!!

    3rd
Spent Saturday lining up art work with my layers and cutting wholes in artwork for buttons,
the Trackball was a challenge but had a paper cutting compass and did a work out pretty much OK
Only hassle is buttons are short as I now have 25mm they have to go thru,
hassle to get them all to fit exactly thru what is now 4 layers, will have to take wood off inside I think for 1p buttons.
Had to remove some metal off my CP mounting bracket as trackball was in the way.

    4th
Wiring em all up to MiniPac, and 2 LED boards. Awesome

May need to moulding around outside, undecided.
    ********************************************************************************
    15th May

    BUTTONS
    1
Those UltraLux Buttons are some pain to begin with, Have to take them off CP as they keep turning trying to click in Bayonet,
Trick is first turn to click them in is always 150% harder the 1st time, after that open\close dozen times.
Then place you button pack in CP, Tighten and Bayonet now can be click in if Button doesnt move.

    2
Wired up 22 Buttons, 8 Joysticks Parts to MINIPAC.
1st - Wired up all 30 INPUTS. To miniPAC
2nd - No1 Wire Goes to Start of the Ground, End cable just left on last button. 32 inputs, to 30 buttons
3rd - Wired up 3\4 Buttons of Xarcade Trackball to CP

And all working fine now bar I have 2 mouse buttons doubled!!!
Also Miss Coin 1 and Coin 2 on left and right of Cab, will reinstall these I think,
and leave 4 other buttons with LEDs doing nothing
    PACDRIVES *2

    3
    LEDS - 2 PacDrives - 16 plus 1 Positives
Looks like may need to have (8 and 1 Positive) *2 Per PacDrive
Did This by Splitting Ground Harness
ALL WORKED 1st GO, ALL LIGHTS ON

    4 GamesEx - LED Plugin
    Setup 8 P1 and 8 P2 to PACDRIVE ID 2
Linked these to this IDs on board (1-16)
Setup each to their Mame Button Scheme

Setup 9 Buttons Across Top to PACDRIVE ID 1
Linked these to this IDs on board (1-16)
Setup each to their Mame Button Scheme

Could Save all work, as SAVE Button was missing,
So did TAB TAB and SPACE to SAVE:
    http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=3032&st=160

All Worked and in Mame Buttons to Use light up
    ********************************************************************************
    24th May:

    1 - Remove Sega Model 2
Last weekend, decided to attack shelf for PC again, and hey presto, killed two birds with one stone,
Remove Last Bronx board and its metal housing, didnt know what could go wrong,
but afterwards Monitor, Marquee and such all still worked fine,
plus its good that that isnt running needlessly since its now Mame Machine.

PC Slotted in just fine in its place.
I did move transformer and all spare wires left over underneath main floor board, hidden compartment in there,
drilled 28mm hole to feed those wires thru, Now Cab is a lot less cluttered and PC finially out of the way. Delighted with all this.

    2 - Speakers:
My looking at Last bronx Wiring Sheet and what I disconnected, could see that AUDIO out Model 2 was unAMPED.
It went to power AMP, And Power AMP with to Speakers and Volume Control.
Perfect now to find way to wire those 4 Audio Wires to PC.
Decided to buy phone cable already cripped and join 4 wires to 4 wires, then join another 2 phono TO STD 3.5 Jack to PC.
    See here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111949.0

    Outstanding Jobs:
    1 Needs Front Drawer Cover
2 Some T Molding or rubber for CP and Trackball
3 Tidy Cables and secure PC inside and close up.
4 Reprogram Mouse Buttons on MiniPAC.

And be all done bar Software!!!
    ********************************************************************************
    30th May

Degauss Mionitor, Colors all fine now :)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xboO2JUvtBM&feature=fvsr
Unreal, one button PRESS and ALL FIXED :) Awesome

    Outstanding:
1 New ROM Set, 131 old
    2 Coin Box Door
    3 Power button PC
    4 Hide windows
    ********************************************************************************
    December 2011

Finally Got time to play this thing :)
And more importantly finally bought a Bar Stool, Unreal comfy one, 60e from Homefront in Cork.

And Thats Cab Number 2 in a Nutshell,

    Outstanding:
Still need to wire Power button,
Need to replace missing Coin Money Tray Door and Maybe replace Artwork\Marquee, but for now I am happy with it.
Also Need to finsh HyperSpin, so time consuming, Gameex used for now, but that doesnt show Movies of each game for some reason.
    ********************************************************************************

Hope it was worth logging this one as well
    Thanks all,
    Kev

I was debating wether or not to buy one of these a few years ago when an arcade was shutting down in Lahinch. The fact it's as heavy as a Galaxian Theatre 6 put me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭kevin2me

Id tempted to buy Galaxian Theatre 6 just to store these arcades, beats a garden shed :)

But Im happy its Heavy, should outlast me ove rthe next few decades :)
and Industrial castor mean can roll it around house no bothers at all.

    Small Update,

    1
Cab now boots straight to Hyperspin, set it to open show games that have Hyperspin Theme,
so 1000 vs few 1000 makes it easier to browse threw the best games.
Hyperspin makes the Cab, its just too pretty :)

    2
Bought a Top Gun EMS III from lik-sang for 50e,
Its wireless and rworks great and has Recoil built in. Gun games are great fun.

    3
My Coin door light keeps blowing, so place a bright adjustable USB Desk lab inside as workaround.
Also have spare usb slot inside coin door.

    4
PC is now inside that cab too and can move cab around the place, left back open as never fitted new fans.

    5
Okey so Coin Collection Door was completely ripped off before i got this Cab,
looked awesome after i had everything else finished.

So bought 7 Inch LCD Screen, throw few 100 of best Vertical Arcade related pics I could find on it.
Bought Kitchen door magnets and superglue one side to Coin Tray and other to back of LCD Srceen
and now its Coin Tray holds it in place with a black mouse mate used as border and can remove from tray if needed in future.
It was silly little workaround that really looks great when people see it.

HAHA Ya right, more like a Certified Loon to fill my house up with Cabs,
Let me be an example to all those beginners who say ONE WILL BE ENOUGH!!!!

Arcade cabs is the Opposite to "The Highlander" - "There can only be one"
Arcade cabs are more like Star Wars - "That boy is our last hope." "No, there is another."

There is always another people, and an other after that, and another... :)

And then there is a Wife and opposite happens, 10 become 5, 5 become 1 :)

    Hey Buddy,

Great to hear from you. Day to remember.
That was some Nightmare alright and that broken down Car I borrowed :)
The Sega rally is going well too:)

What ever happened to the my Sega Megalo Seat, I remmeber we had paid up on it, but never got it.

I know you couldnt get access to it on the day of Sega Rally for some security issue in warehouse?
But I wasnt able to get in touch with you afterwards, I tried but no luck? It still kicking around?
Just curious more than anything after this amount of time :)

    Thanks Kev

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭Hygro

I could have sworn that the megalo was gone to you as well? that's one of the reasons I was looking through your posts, to see what you'd done with it! I'm sure I remember almost killing myself trying to get it out from in between a load of other machines. Then again I was almost killed lifting a lot of cabinets out of a basement so it's all a blur at this stage.

I actually had a falling out with the relative who I was getting the machines from a few of years back so I've no real desire of contacting him at the moment. As far as I know all of the stuff has been cleared out now, probably all went in the dump!

If you want you can pm me and we can sort out that money.

Thanks well at least I know now, dont worry about it.
I was surprised at time, as your dead on, so suspected something bad must have happened, so sorry to hear about falling bout.
I wasnt worried bout money to be honest it was more I was disappointing not get the megalo as I had cool ideas of it :)

Ya "Professional" VanMan I sent up got sick, so his bro inlaw, idiot put petrol instead diesel and ended up being late getting up you.

Anyways crazy times my friend, you keep any cab for yourself.
Id love to seen that Arcade in Galway, what was it called?

Anyways heres your Sega rally and Laxt Bronx in all its glory.
Mame and Hyperspin is great. Installed LCD where Coin door was missing.
It wa smy first cab so overly blingy, but sure what the hell.

    Cheers.

Whoa, a Naomi as well?? Electric Ireland must love you!! haha!! Do you have hyperspin on everything bar the sega rally?? I'm sure you mentioned before about putting mario kart on it, or was that just some crazy dream??

    mario-kart-arcade-grand-prix-20050926015637088-1258309.jpg

I just have my old Supreme cabinet, it's got a Gamebox 450 in it, but it's still Jamma, so I'd rather keep it that way for posterity.

I do want to make a proper mame cab though (building a mini cabinet is my goal - one big enough for a crt monitor though), either with an xbox, or pc, though I can't get my head around hyperspin though, too technical for me!!

Ya I dunno one side sega Rally has loads of problems,
But either way I use that and leave others have good side with working FFB and all that
But Ill be keeping SR as original as be crime not too. Might try get another Driving cab some stage.

For you could try get Multiboard into Jamma, or can get PC with Mame via Jamma too if you look it up.
I have 2 Mame Cabs, Twin SRally, Jamma Cab and Sega Woody and in process of building a Noami Gamerooms at then mo. Ill try up thread here soon on that. Naomis are great as so easy to dismantle.

Its all your fault, you started me on the path or cab collecting my friend :)
That 24htz Monitor that no one wanted in last bronx, 100 hrs googling later,
managed to get it to 15HTZ and Mame :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭Hygro

Well the Gamebox has 450 games on it, so it's "technically" a "mame" cabinet I guess, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9oZgW_fgE8, so I'll leave that as it.

I had a couple of empty poker cabinets in my friends garage that were basically gonna be my xbox or mame cabs (nice and small, about 4 ft tall and 18 inches wide) but they swine threw them out without telling me! So back to the drawing board (literally) if I want a cabinet!!

I always thought it would have been a shame to dismantle the sega rally though, cos I felt it would be nigh on impossible to get it working with mame driving games and yet keep it untouched on the outside (i.e. looks like a regular SR, has all the original bit's and bobs etc).

Yeah, naomis are great, they look like they don't take up as much room as regular wooden cabs too, cos you can put stuff underneath them, haha.

I feel responsible now for your addiction ... one good thing though about obsession is that you get the job done, eventually :)

Here's a question though, do you have different games on each cab (obviously SR is different)?

    You Sud be :)
    2 Cabs are mamed,
1 Virtua Striker Model2 (Going to sell that soon)
1 Jamma with few PCBs (Rastan, MVS Carts and such)
    3 Naomis with NetDimm\Jamma\360\Noami MBs
with and various Games like VTennis and gun games.

Sounds class, what cab is your pride and joy, or do you have a favourite atal?

Cool about the mvs etc, I think you always need the real deal somewhere as well as knock offs in emulators!

Speaking of which, you're a bit of a hyperspin genius so can you give me some tips on how to get it and set it up etc? Or is there a lesser front end that is a bit more user friendly?
