Nice one - have spotted the road markings lately so looks to be a decent course

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 Tomwalsh10k

Yeah it is a decent course, only 1 tough hill at approx 8k. The course is AAI certified and will post the course on Facebook in the coming days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,849 ✭✭✭Cartman78

Yep...I know that particular hill very well...suffice to say it may affect pacing for a minute or two ;) although any time lost can be more than made up for on the long gradual downhill afterwards

John I know your 2 brothers. I used to train with Mark many moons ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 Tomwalsh10k

It sure is a small world, Mark doesn't run as much as he used to, Des runs a bit he did a 1hr30min half marathin about 2 months ago, not bad without training,

Changing area and showers will be available on race day.

I ran the 10k route this morning, the course is in good condition, there are 2 climbs which are managable at 5k and about 7k. Any lost time will be made up during the last kilometer which is mostly downhill to the finish line.

The winners of the male & female 10k race will be presented with trophies by a relative of Tom Walsh that were won by him during his running career. Due to the historic nature of the trophies they are to remain in the trophy cabinet of the Caherconlish Millennium centre. One of these trophies is picture on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tom-Walsh-Memorial-10k-Run-5m-Walk/289098387795801?sk=wall. The male & female 10k winners will also be presented with commemorative medallions.

Doing this event ...first 10k of the year .

my confidence now rocked by a comment like "there are 2 climbs which are manageable" , that translates to awful steep . you will struggle .

i suppose no pain no gain. :)

All preparations for race day in Caherconlish are coming on well and the final touches will be completed over the next 2 days. We are expecting a big turnout on race day from the feedback we are getting from many of you. There will be marshals at all major junctions as you enter Caherconlish to direct traffic to car parking. The road to the Caherconlish Millennium Centre will be closed to all traffic expect residents. Car parking will be available at the Caherline GAA field located outside the village, Caherconlish Church & School and the local Credit Union. All we need now is good weather on the day.

Hi All, today was our first race in Caherconlish in the memory of Tom Walsh our local barefoot runner, 250 runners and 120 walkers participated. On behalf of the Caherconlish/Caherline community games committee and myself John Robinson I would like to thank everyone for participating, the volunteers without them this event would not happen, Caherconlish Millennium centre staff and the registration & finish line volunteers (you know who you are) & the family of Tom Walsh. We will post race times this evening, photos & videos will take a bit longer due to the volume of data. We would appreciate all feedback to make next years event even better, please email tomwalshmemorial@gmail.com with your suggestions. Thanks all, it was a great day. Can't wait for next years event. John
