Very interesting! Couple of questions. How many kms do you expect to do? What's the average ability of the group so far? I know you are a crazy guy, I am asking for the rest of the people :p Is it going to be a circular route to return or we ll stop somewhere in the middle and then we have to find our own way home?
    Cheers.

Would there be a minimum level of Mtbing experience required for this?

I'm not sure I agree. Although well intentioned, people often get carried away at Christmas parties & I would be concerned about his ability to perform 100% at the 12 pubs... which is considered to be one of the more taxing events on the calendar...

    Bonjour

    Thanks for the enquiry :

We reckon if you do full loop off road to glendalough and road home you would be somewhere around 75 - 80 k mark , 40 - 45 of that being off road.
Ability is from Richie at elite level to...... me ( Im sh1te but I love it).
As there are plenty of road crossings along the way there are many turnaround points,I intend turning back early if I need to myself as I am in work Sat PM.
Hope the above answers your questions.

    Cheers

I would say intermediate at least and of course be able to cycle the distance aswell.

I can confirm he is sh1te but has a lovely smile.

My expectation there will be a few places to cut out and bail home. I'm going along so pace will be manageable I'll drag em back promise!

If anyone finds it tough we will attach a rope to Richie Felle and get towed up the WW.

Even if you take a crack at stage 1/2 that would be a good mornings spin out.

These opportunities don't come along too often so take it up.

This looks fun, a few more questions:

    1. What time does it leave and from where in Dublin? (I'm not very familiar)

    2. Would I get away without suspension?

    3. Do you expect to need lights or should I bring just in case.

    4. Finally as someone not familiar with the area will I be ok finding my way back to the starting point if i broke off from the group?

    Thanks....

I am very tempted, I am probably 95% in.. I am just worried about ice (and maybe snow)..

at1withmyself, I would say bring lights for sure, it's getting dark quite early now.

Thanks, if I decide to do it then I'll def fit the lights so.

RTE say bright but cold on saturday at 1 degree which should be fine for mtb but early days so I'll wait till later in the week to see the weather but at the moment like yourself I'm 95% in.

Its early at 7:30am, Taylors Pub car park. Bottom of 3 rock.

    2. Would I get away without suspension?
Would be interesting... I would say no, hardtail or full susser. But hey you might be class on rigid, you know your ability.

    3. Do you expect to need lights or should I bring just in case.
I had not intended lights, starting at bloody 7:30am they will be back before close of light.

    4. Finally as someone not familiar with the area will I be ok finding my way back to the starting point if i broke off from the group?
The cut offs back will be main road, there will be a few breaking off at different stages so getting back should not be an issue.

In relation to weather, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes :)

I would love to be at a good enough level to do this.

Is there any hope of one of the mtb clubs arranging spins for beginners in the new year?

+1! Also big thanks to John as well for the mechanical support. What a great day for such spin. It was tough in times, slippery, cold but great fun. We almost climbed 1.500m in 40k..

Further to our already completed 8 week MTB beginner introductory spins and in light of interest being shown at this level we have decided to continue our Beginner Spins over the Xmas period and on into the New Year.

Our objective is to introduce beginners to the wonderful world of
XC Mountainbiking in a relaxed and unpressurised way which in turn allows riders to develop and gain confidence at their own pace without having to feel they have to be of a certain level/standard to join our spins.

So come on..... here is your chance to really get the most from mountainbiking, come join us and lets hit the trails.....:D

I will post more info here as I have it and of course check out the website http://www.thinkbike.ie or follow us on Facebook

**** Many Thanks for the positive feedback in previous posts much appreciated:):)

    Cheers
