Have you thought about track cycling? - Sundrive run summer track leagues with youth categories - they can provide you with a hire track bike, and it's great (and safe) introduction to training and racing for kids

you can do both. alot of the track cycists in Ireland do road too, it would be very good at your age to learn proper sprinting technique to help with road race finishes.

also as Beasty mentined you dont need a track bike, you can rent one there and do road training with your own bike that will help with track

Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and many more built their racing reputations on the track;)

If you go to Orwell Wheelers website

    http://www.orwellwheelers.org

and if you take a look at the winter spin roster (in the right hand column under General Info, it's towards the bottom of this panel)

    - you'll get a spreadsheet that details all the spins over winter - you'll see spins organised for Youth all ages, and Youth 12 up.

Also the contact us page at:

    http://www.orwellwheelers.org/contact-us.html

gives a list of people you could ask about what's going on in the youth section [e.g. or send an email to orwelladmin@gmail.com]

Good luck, and hope you take it up and enjoy it with any club

Both Sorrento and Bray wheelers which are soutside based have junior membership, depending on age parental consent might be required.

A cycling club is a lot of different things to different people. Touring? Racing? Debauchery?

Orwell is now a massive club (possibly the largest in the country, but possibly not). That may appeal, or not.

There are many other good clubs. Just don't join Lucan. :pac:

    See membership page here:

    http://www.orwellwheelers.org/membership.html

Also in your case note the under 18 consent form.

From the membership page it says that new member welcome autumn to March. Actually the membership night was just last night (5th December). Your best bet is to try to get in touch with Dave, or just turn up on a Sunday where the youth spins are on and try out a youth group.

Also take a look at the link below - there seems to be contact info for Dave.

as a young person trying to become as good as you can and enjoy it go to a club with some knowledgeable people. A club that will give you a good workout each week. you should be learning something new each week. Ask if they have a coach going with them for each spin. Older riders tend to do what they like best, so for me no mountains for the mountain guys no hard sprint type efforts whereas a coach with a group will make sure you get a good balance of differnet types of efforts.

South dublin are good. Lucan are good, Wheelers are good these are just off the top of my head.

oh and I forgot probably the most important thing. CI clubs are obliged to have leaders/supervisors/coaches who work with young or vulnerable adults to be garda vetted and to have completed a Child protection course.....probably not of interest to you but your mother/father/guardian will be I bet......
