Thinking of going to WIT. Any insights into the college or town of Waterford?

Hey i'm from Sligo and i've done a 2 year business course in Galway.
This year i'm working in a shop in Galway and i'm going back to college in september to do a computing degree.
In was originally looking at CIT but WIT looks much better.
I'm used to the buzzing city of Galway, something being on every night and the large amounts of students in NUIG being around.
Is Waterford town big and busy all the time?
And does the college have a good buzz about it?
    Thanks!

It's smaller, but reminds me a lot of Galway. The river runs through the centre of town, there are a lot of students, you're near the sea.

And I couldn't really tell you about the buzz around college, I'm a mature student, so am only in to study, sorry.

Ah cool. It sounds like a lovely town or should I say city ;)
I didn't actually know it was a city.
My knowledge of the South is minimal.

Sheltered? not really. Just a random fact I didn't know.
I don't have many dealings with the South East.
Sure enough that'll be changing soon.

It's a good shpot so it is.

It's a very small city, but compact.
Everythings together and the town is nearly always jammers.

Well Waterford is similar, the city centre is compact enough too. All the nightclubs are in the one area too, all within a few hundred yards of each other.

    I wouldnt worry about it.

I heard Sligo referred to as a city on RTE recently. At least you have an excuse but not RTE.

haha ya, Sligo is a gate-way city. It has an IT a hospital, dock, airport, and all of the other things a city has; except the population. it's close but not there yet.
In some instances its referred to as a city but officially its not.

    It's hillier than Galway.

As an outsider I can say that it's not a very aesthetically pleasing city. I find it dark, dull, dirty and not very inviting for the most part. There are a few nice areas of course, but no, the majority of the city is horrible and horribly laid out. Though this is probably true for the majority of Irish towns and cities.

Definitely pay a visit to the place before you move.

Right, because all other Viking towns have great planning.

    Heya,

I'm from Waterford myself. Went to DCU first and then transferred down to WIT. In my final year. Waterford has its good and bad points, like any city. Main club/late bars in town are all laid out in one area. There's lots of other local pubs so you'd find a hangout. Wrt college life, it's really what you make of it and depends if your class are sociable. Join a few Societies, or even go for Class Rep as you get to interact with about 200 other people from different courses, go on training and nights out. There's gaming societies too (I presume you're into that), and a fair few others. If I were you, come down for a day during the second term and have a look around. Email the course leaders and they'll arrange a time to meet up with you to discuss what the cours is like. You'll find their details on the WIT website. The Students Union are lovely too, and you can call into their office anytime and they'll answer any questions etc.

Here are some websites you might find handy:

    http://www.wit.ie/StudentLifeServices/SportRecreation/Societies/

    http://www.wit.ie/StudentLifeServices/SportRecreation/Facilities/

    http://www.wit.ie/WITResources/AcademicCalendar/

If you go onto the next link, choose the course, and scroll down to the end, you'll find Course Leaders emails.

    Hope that helps,

Thanks Kina. That's a load of help.
Me and my girlfriend are going to go for a weekend to Waterford, check out the sites, go surfing at Tramore and head out, see what it's like.
    Thanks!
