Just wondering if you have any recommendations for NFL books so I can get them put into the Christmas stocking :)

I'm thinking of Michael Oher's autobiography:

    NFL Unplugged:

    The Draft:

    Next Man Up:

    Tim Tebow's autobiography:

    Another good one here:

Ah sure no need to combine them I wouldn't imagine. Always good to get more ideas. Those threads are old im sure more books have come out since then.

I have a collection brewing at the moment most of all of them are in those threads the others are coaching books. really need to get an ereader to catch up on me reading.

Kinda kills me when these 21 year old sports stars write their autobiographies. Granted, Oher's and Tebow's are probably excellent reads but you would hope they release another one when they retire then.

    This is a great read:

I cannot recommend The Best Game Ever by Mark Bowden enough. It's the same guy who wrote Black Hawk Down so his pedigree in telling a story is just top quality, and the way he makes such an old game sound so fresh and modern is great. He's brilliant at portraying each player as their unique character - such an enjoyable read. I'm sure others here who have read it would back me up on that opinion.

Edit: Snap! Spiralism right in there before me! :)

    Sean Payton's book is great.

My Dirty Little Secret - Tony Mandarich

Great insight to the power of the game to draw you into the darker ways to achieve success but how to overcome your demons and give back.

Actually a great book in itself without being an NFL as such book.

Every Packers fan out there should read this book!

the cowboys book from the team of the early 90s with Irvin and Primetime is a good read too. good insight to what those lads were at, and at huge differences with the colts/giants game book above there, which I read both one after another. couldnt be more contrasting books about superbowl winners!

One Knee Equals Two Feet by John Madden with Dave Anderson is absolutely excellent.

Has to be one of the best titles for a book.

War Room: The Legacy of Bill Belichick and the Art of Building the Perfect Team

Have it downloaded and ready to read over Christmas, read a article about it in MMQB a few weeks back and can't wait to crack into it.

I'd have to recommend Next man up. It was the first book I read about the NFL and really got me into the business side of things and seeing players as more then just things to play with on madden.

Two good books that I got based on recommendations from previous threads are

    1) Take your eye off the ball by Pat Kirwan.
It's definitley not for beginners but great for better understanding of the game. Why a coach would go for a run rather than a pass in a given scenario or what exactly is going on when ~2500lbs worth of human run into each other on the O/D-line.

    2) Total Access: A Journey to the Center of the NFL Universe - Rich Eisen

Started reading John Grisham's Bleachers this morning. Very visual and emotive towards the Coach Rake. Seems good so far, I read more pages than I had thought, which is a good thing as the story seemed to flow nicely. It seemed like an exploration of the relationship between the coach and his players.

Whats Grisham's football background or just through reserach and interviews is his knowledge based?

Mark Maske(The guy from the Washington Post) wrote a very good book:

War without death:A year of extreme competition in Pro Football's Nfc East.

I know I mentioned it in one of the other threads but saying it again, Great book.

And i know its not football, but just finishing moneyball and its a great book.

Agreed. Well worth a read, even if you aren't a baseball fan.

Got 'Next Man Up' for Christmas anyway, looking forward to getting a few quiet hours over the next few days to get stuck into it.
