Was out in the garden with the dogs after work this evening, heard a fox calling in the field between me and the lake. ran into house, grabbed .17, lamp and gf and headed down the lane to the gate.

Called and scanned for bout 5 mins when suddenly i copped him steaming in towards us. I hand herself the light, give few more squeaks and tell her to turn it on. Fox is now bout 20 yds from us standing broadside, squeeze the trigger, click :eek: :eek: quick reload but the bugger has ran off back to the wood :mad:

pick up the ejected round from the grass and on inspection it was a dud :mad:

will go out later see if I can get him again !!

Hehehee.

Was out with my friend one night, we'd shot one or two already. Walking in an old mountain track I spied a fox sitting pretty watching us, lovely shot. Settled down with the rifle, took real careful aim, squeezed "Click!"

Think we frightened him off with the laughing.

Somehow closed the bolt on an empty chamber

Happened again this year with the HMR and a rabbit but we shot plenty that day!

Jes that is sickening! I had a dud in the last pack or 20 gn hp I fired! Dats 2 now since I got the rile but i dont know is it down to the firing pin or the ammo!

I hate duds and misfires. You're standing there thinking, did the round actually chamber from the magazine or is it an actual dud.

Had a slab of RC shotgun cartridges last year and there must have been 2 duds per box of 25. Generally a good cartridge but that put us off them.

Had my HMR for bout 7 yrs now, using hornady for bout 6, in that time i've had bout 4 duds, a pain on bunnies, bloody annoying on foxes :mad:

still thats bout 4 duds out of bout 1500 so not too bad !!
