Sound Problems - ArchLinux EMU10K1 (Soundblaster)

    Evening all

I've recently dipped back in to the Linux world and have been really enjoying the change. Have even managed to make Ubuntu my daily distro, even for office work and have never been happier.

Over the last few weeks I've been drawn back to Slackware and Arch. Really enjoying them but have experienced a common sound card problem with both.

Has anyone managed to get a Creative Soundblaster Live (EMU10K1) card working in their Archlinux installation?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

    John

Thanks for that Jazmin Jolly Kindergarten. LOL about the card...I know. It's ancient.

    Checked /etc/modules.conf and /etc/devfsd.conf.

    Changed my /etc/modules.conf from:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 to
alias snd-card-1 snd-emu10k1....and after a restart I had sound. After another restart I had no sound.

I checked "modinfo soundcore" which said I have this module installed so it can't be a alsa/kernel-recompile issue.

I'll keep at it. I might start from scratch again. Thanks.

Pulseaudio. If you are running it, it might be trying access your onboard sound card. Bios Disable your onboard card, and see if that fixes your issue.

Evening all. An update. So after a second install I seem to have learned from my mistakes and now appear to have Arch running with sound.

My main mistake appears to be the way I set up Alsa. I had originally configured alsamixer as root but this time I configured alsamixer as a user in the audio group. Unmuted all relevant channels and, with the sound working, I switched back to root before saving the settings with alsactl store. I then added alsa to rc.conf daemons.

Working now and very happy. Thanks for all the help.
