    Alright boardsies...

Im looking around for 3 door 05-08 petrol golf! Price range around 5-7G

Anyone got any tips on what to look out for or what to avoid?

I'm only 18 so the Gti is kinda out of the Q with insurance and that!

    Thanks for any responses!!

Have you a full licence? Otherwise don't bother ringing the insurance companies.

Assuming you have a full licence, then it's probably only going to be the gutless 1.4 petrol that you could realistically insure. You would probably be crucified on insurance for the 1.6FSI. €7k will however buy you a nicer car than a base Golf.

You could always spend a grand on a older Polo and build up a NCB on it then fork out the rest of the cash on a nicer car.

Have you got an insurance quote on a golf?

As above, get insurance quotes first,

I always laugh to myself when I see people driving 1.4 petrol golfs .....I always refer to them as 'The Poor Mans Golf' :D

Because they cant afford a diesel :D when is miles ahead of them.

By that mindset, every golf is just a poor mans Audi.

    Stupid thing to say IMO.

    Yeahh Ive got my full.

Il be going under my dads name on the insurance anyway so thats grand.

Its already <1100 on a 1.6 Tdci focus!

.... What about the 1.4TSI model? Ive just been looking at that and seen some people say it can be as quick as the 2ltr petrol. (could be some exageration but yeah you get the point)

Not a fan of Audi's myself. Ive always loved the MK 5 Golf, Get one with a decent colour, nice spec, decent alloys they look lovely on the road!

Tsi model or Fsi? Both are rare enough in ireland? Neither have much results when typing them into donedeal?

I drive the 1.4 tsi but its the 170 bhp version. Cheap tax and my insurance is ok (I am 33 though! ). Fun car to drive but be wary of the turbo...apparently if they are driven too hard they have a tendency to go pop. I dont drive mine too hard and I have to say I have never had a moments bother with it. Great car
