Do dead bodies affect course 'condition'?

Because if they do, Portsalon Golf Club has a major headstart.

There may be as many as 250 dead sailors under the 18th at the golf club. On December 4th 1811, HMS Saldhana was destroyed during violent storms, with the loss of everyone on board... including the ship's parrot (even if it was a few days later).

200 years later, they think they know where the bodies are. You'll find more on my blog, but I love the idea of historians wandering the course with scanners. Target practice - that's all I'll say.

The 18th green on The Old Course at St Andrews was built on an old burial ground as well.

The largest dune at Enniscrone is the final resting place for a number of vikings I believe.

Cnoc na gCorp is the dune you're talking about. Makes for a great story of how the Vikings came through the dunes on a raid and the locals were waiting for them... and slaughtered them Scandinavian fellas. The bodies were buried in the dune... allegedly! It's not part of the course - it's off to the left of the 11th - but great for marketing.

I knew that 18th's at Portsalon was cursed, i've had nothing but bad luck at that hole.
    1. Hooked a tee shot into the carpark and hit a car (thankfully owner wasn't bothered, no damage).
    2. Almost hit a woman while she walked right across the middle of the fairway (I lost 5 years of my life watching that ball). Anyone familiar with the course 5+years ago, will remember the path for the public to walk to the beach was about 230 yards from the tee, and people only appeared in sight when they were in the middle of the fairway.
    3. Thinned a wedge from 50yards through the green and hit the clubhouse.
    4. Tons of times i'd hit what i think is the perfect approach only to see my ball land in the drain short of the green.

    Cursed Hole:D

Nice article Kevin, fascinating story, could be a good marketing tool for the club with some good PR :)

Do you mean the 12th Kevin. 11th is the par 3. Last time I played Enniscrone I was halfway up that dune to the left of the green. Badly pulled approach shot and I ended up loosing my ball up there. Great hole though.
