there was a younger man in the seat of the cean comhairle today while the budget was being given out, but when things got heated when the lady form shin fean spoke about how her party members had dificulites up the north he went away and then sean Barrett returned .
any one know who was the man who sat in for sean Barrett .

You described him as a younger man, so I assume it wasn't Leas-Cheann Comhairle Michael Kitt (although he is 6 years younger than Seán Barrett, I assume a younger man means a much younger man).

some other people can also take the chair if needed, such as the Clerk of the Dail

so i presume it was one of them

Did anyone else see Seán Barrett drinking a pint in the Dáil yesterday following the post budget debate - while acting as CC (as if it could look any worse in anycase)?

There was a tradition in Westminster that allowed the Chancellor of the Exchequer to have a glass of whisky while delivering the budget.

Like many other quirks and rituals associated with the House of Commons, this was probably carried over to the Dáil after independence.

And while the practice is no longer undertaken during budget speeches in Westminster, I cannot be sure about Kildare Street. :)

What is even more unbelievable is the fact that Minister Howlin was also having a pint in the same sitting. In the actual Dáil!

Just on that point, if I ordered a pint and it was served in a glass that size, I'd want my money back. ;) 0:17:19 into the clip.

I looks more like a large glass of water to me.

    OP

That guy was the Offical CC Seat Warmer. Nice job if you can get it, but the interview involves quite a lot of bum feeling and measuring. Basically they have to work out the ratio between circumference and cheek density. You can trust me, that's no easy task, I should know as I'm not actually a doctor.

    :)

    Cheers
