most fuel efficient van

    What is the most fuel efficient van out there, I need somthing like a VW caddy but they seem heavon juice, Any other suggestions?

    The renault kango has an electric version as far as i know so it would be hard to beat that!

    Transit Connect with the 1.8 TDCI.
    Same engine in my CMax does 50 mpg. Had the Trannie with the same engine, nice little van and tough.

    I have a nissan kubistar 1.5 dci 70 bhp...to say it is miserly on fuel is an understatement. Constant 50-60 mpg easily achieved.
    Mind you I've heard the fiat diesels are very easy on juice also.

    I'm no expert but surly a lot is going to depend on the kinda load you want to put in the van. Won't matter much if its just for a few tools and that but if you moving heavier stuff could well be better off getting a bigger engine that can handle it rather than straining a smaller engine.

    The economy of any of these vans is effected greatly by how they are driven and what weight they will be carrying around.

    TBH I would say that with the same driver/load/driving conditions, the differences between the VAG 1.9tdi, Nissan/renault 1.5dci and 1.3/1.7 Opel/Fiat/Isuzu engines would fairly minimal TBH.

    I've never bothered working out the exact MPG but my astra 1.7 cdti can just about squeeze 1000kms from €65 of diesel @ approx 1.42per L when driving easily(constant 100kmh/ short shifting/no load) and even with some less efficient driving(120kmh/overtaking etc) will still give close to 900kms.

    Funny how everyone has a go at renaults.
    I used to drive for a contract laundry firm and they tried every van under the sun for reliability and the renaults were easily the best.
    The boss bought every van under the sun from peugeots to Mercedes to fiats and fords but the renaults were always the easiest run (fuel economy, servicing etc)

    I also had 2 clios and a megane and never had any trouble with them...suppose you can be lucky or unlucky with your motor!!

    sorry forgot to say i'm thinking 2006 onwards, I wont be putting much weight into the van or hauling heavy loads but i would like a bit of space for some bulky items if needed.
