Headline news on the Indo's website:

"Man leaves work with his fly down"

    http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/tv-radio/adrian-chiles-feels-the-chill-as-he-leaves-morning-tv-studio-for-last-time-with-zip-undone-2954093.html

This paper is getting more and more rediculous. I certainly will not buy it again. They have descended into gutter journalism. Their level of investigative journalism is pathetic & it seems the opinion of their 'journalists'(?) is more inportant than a well balanced story.

Couple that with the fact that they seem to pick any random items from Reuters and present it as local news, without identifying that it has nothing to do with Ireland... The country is better off without papers like this. Is there any such thing as quality investigative Journalism any more or do papers just compete on brand and fill up on regurgitated news agancy crap?

I didn't read the Irish Independent to-day. Was that story in its Print Edition ?

    Londonderry?

Sounds like they are just recycling tripe from other papers and presenting it as their own...

Wait, it's nearly a year since that happened.

I think we all know the real story here! He still hasn't pulled it up?

When did you wake up to that? Has been a rag for years! And the biggest fools are the public servants buying it every day!

Yeah, that annoys me. You read a headline saying something like "Minister of whatever says......" and you click on the link and find out it's the some Minister in the Scottish parliament or wherever.

Just seen the ad on TV for the SUnday Independent tomorrow, complete with video of a child in a rabbit outfit and telling us they are going to give us the secret to our lifelong happiness and how to measure our "happiness temperature" - surely this has got to be a new low? :pac: even for them!

That's from Press Association, as stated at the bottom of the article, who have offices in both Belfast and Dublin and cover news in Ireland as a whole.

I am going to do something very unusual... I'm going to give the Independent a slap on the back for the following article, well done!

The population is also going down the gutter. The people love that type of stuff, it usually slots into the Most Read section.

Not too many on the other hand would be buying the FT.

And yet they seem to be signing up some of the country's top journos: Adrian Weckler, Richard Curran and now seemingly IT economics editor Dan O'Brien: http://www.finfacts.ie/irishfinancenews/article_102602.shtml.

Wonder could this have anything to do with the long (or even medium)-term prospects of non-INM papers...

We've been there before. With big circulation comes a big war chest to lure journos away from other papers. That was part of the reason for the downfall of the Sunday Tribune, Tony O'Reilly waved the chequebook and all the good writers left to go to Abbey St. O'Reilly then had to 'invest' money in the Tribune just to keep it going, ostensibly as a public-spirited gesture to maintain competition but in reality it was to scare off the Irish Times from bringing out a Sunday edition.

As soon as the crash happened and the Irish Times had blown all their cash buying internet sites for crazy money (€50m for myhome.ie ), the Tribune was thrown to the wolves.
