Changing dipped headlights on MK 6 Golf.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm having huge problems replacing the right hand side dipped headlight on my Golf.

The gap between the light holder and battery case is far too tight.

Anyone know of the best way to do this?

I did a Youtube and google search but no joy...

Can you remove the plastic battery cover? IIRC they just clip together with no fasteners. Take the lid off first and it should be fairly obvious which of the side-panels you need to remove first to disassemble it.

Some VAG cars allow you to pop the headlight housing out to change the bulbs. Might be worth signing up on a VW specific forum to ask?

I tried that but it doesn't really give me much more space between the fuse-holders and the headlight housing.

I tired that too. I opened the four visible screws that are holding it on but it seems to be fixed on from below also and I can't access it.
    I'll try again though.
    Thanks lads..

If you've removed the battery housing, can you see the single bolt that holds the battery retaining bracket to the metal battery tray? (13mm IIRC) If you take this off and lift the battery slightly (don't disconnect any cables) you can move the batter a few cm backwards on the tray.

To work on some of those VAG headlight set-ups you needs hands and fingers like a child's; unfortunately mine are more like hams than hands :(

Ok, I'll try that and post back. :)

The whole headlight pops out of my audi with about 20 seconds work. Golf might be the same

Edit: Seems bumper has to come off to remove golf 6 headlight. Best look at moving batterty tray so

It's actually the fuses unit that's directly behind the headlight housing and it doesn't look like it can be moved out of the way.

Why the hell do they make it so difficult? :(

When You pop the bonnet, is there a little handle at the bottom of the headlight that you can pull?

Save your knuckles and your patience and bring it into the dealers. I know my local VW dealer replaces headlight bulbs for free!

I don't see any handle. Think the front bumper needs to be dropped off to remove the lighting unit.

+ plus one to this, i spent about 4 hours trying to change a bulb on my focus
a while back with the same problems of very little space to manoeuvre.

Brought it a local garage and they changed it in 30 seconds for free.

Western Motors, Galway... but I'd expect most VW dealers offer the same service. Yes, to fully remove the headlight, the bumper has to come off! I don't think you need to go to those lengths though.
