With all the belt tightening and austerity (yawn) going on, I get asked for small diesels more and more with people looking for a small diesel runner.

I imported a nice Audi A2 1.4 tdi, to drive for a few weeks myself and to test the market. I cleared it, got test on it, prepped it for sale, and marketed it and feck, my phone hopped.

    Sold very quick.

The future is small derv, cheap but quality cars ;)

So, the secrets out...Get one now if and while you can.:)

I'd say you could import a VW Polo TDI from the UK quite reasonably and sell on here for quite a tidy number, same with a Fiesta 1.4TDCI..

It's where the money is these days..

yep, but the polo twist tdi commands good money in the uk, making it hard to carve a profit out of.
However, for a priv individual doing it for themselves, it makes good sense.

Diesel cars have no soul. :P

Small diesel cars are an abomination with no soul. :pac:

I'm all for people buying as many of them as possible though, maybe we'll see a nice role reversal in the prices at the pumps (even moreso than the last few weeks) and having bought a relatively large petrol engine (in Irish terms) will end up working in my favour. Muahahahahaha.

Step 1. Buy unecomical petrol car
    Step 2. Diesel stuff happens
    Step 3. Profit.

Dear lord I've completed the connundrum! :D

A2's aren't cheap in the UK.

What is with the obsession with diesels.

Quite obvious the tax and running costs for most people. If you change your car every 2-3 years and have a warranty for that time there's no point getting a petrol regardless of mileage. That's before taking common sense into account though:)

The 20,000 miles I put up since May would be my obsession.

A petrol equivelant would have put me off the road.

Which is exactly why I bought a diesel and will be selling it next September with very small mileage .
    Makes perfect sense to me..

    @ OP
Don't forget to look at Seat Ibiza tdi on the UK
same 1.4 engine as the audi and probably could be bought right.

Fair enough, just can't see many people here will pay €7000 for a 9/10 yr old car.

    Fair play to ya :)

The A2 wasn't loved when new - it was very expensive.

Different era now though. The small car with the small modern diesel engine is now in vogue. And the A2 is very light (made from aluminium) so very frugal

Buy them all and bring them over here :D

A friend went looking for a Pug 1.4 Diesel..

Rare as hen's teeth and he is in the trade ! Looks like the small/medium 1.4 diesel market is the growth market. But will it be when and if the government bump up the road tax?

I'd say it would be expensive in parts and repairs especially if you damage any of those panels.

Tell me about it. A door (yes one unpainted new aluminium door) for my car costs €4,500 from the main dealer :D
