Phil Hogan and Crimes Absolved

I won't mention the accusation so that the thread won't be closed as with my previous one.

I'd like to know how could I go about finding out if Phil Hogan made a representation on behalf of a relative to the Gardaí? Is it possible to find these things out?

It probably isn't easy to find these things out, as glasnost still hasn't made a complete breakthrough in Ireland.

However, I suggest you draft a letter, very carefully so that you do not actually make an accusation, asking for information on the matter and send it to the Garda Commissioner, the Minister for Justice and the Garda Ombudsman. Mention in the letter that you would appreciate a reply by, say, three months from now.

Then wait and see what happens. Send the letters registered.;)

    Best of luck to you.:)

I'd say it would be very difficult. You'd need a Garda to own up and admit to it(basically be happy to lose his job) and can't see that happening.

Could you ask about a clear cut case (or two according to my relative) in that the Gardaí either had evidence or they didn't regards Phil Hogan's immediate relative and ask why the cases were dropped?

My guess is they will just deny having edvidence because again if they admitted having evidence and just did nothing with in then they'd be in serious trouble. If they did cover it up then they would(most likely) have destroyed all the evidence. If the case was sent to the DPP and just dropped then yo'd have a better chance of finding out but I'd say that once a case gets to the DPP it would be very hard for it to be just dropped because someone high up asks for it to happen.

Seand an email to your local Td or contact the Ombdsman office, theMinster for Justice, or the gardai.

Contact the Garda Ombudsmans office with any information you have. It's their job to investigate this.

Send a letter, it'll be taken far more seriously than an email. Also make sure to add your name and address to the letter.

No, I never send letters partly because it is absurd for us to be talking about being a leader in new technology or a country which actively seeks investment from new technology companies if we have to use pen and paper to communicate with politicians.
I never give my actual address to politicians - it is none of thier business and only allows them to waste taxpayers money posting replies, adverts etc.
If I am not receiving a reply from a TD, I send a few polite reminders and then if that does not work, I start sending emails to thier national HQ asking them to contact the TD to ask them to reply to thier emails - that usually works.
Using emails also allows one to forward copies to other interested parties.

Sure, I agree it's stupid but they take letters more seriously than emails still unfortunately.

I suspect that is changing, because it is very easy to forward emails pointing out that the TD is refusing to answer emails to 50 radio stations, news papers and other persons you think might be interested, not to mention social netwrok sites etc. The internet has empowered oridnary people and politicians better learn the lesson, the balance of power has shifted ever so slightly.
