    Hey all,

Looking to change the car in the new year and i've narrowed it down to a lexus rx400h 2007 or 2008 model. Just wondering has anyone has first hand experience with them?

Also what are the realistic mpg's like? Read various uk reviews giving between 20 - 35 mpg

    Cheers

I don't have first hand experience of one but a work partner of my parent's has a 2006 RX400h. Talking to him about it the other day and he said he now has 240k km on it now and never has he had a problem, ''super reliable'' was the term he used unlike his wife's Mercedes ML280CDI. Tyres didn't last that long on them though and fuel consumption varied greatly anything from 15mpg right up to 33/34mpg.. Saying that he races car's in his spare time so maybe that's why the fuel economy isn't great..:D

Ya i'm kinda getting loads of mixed fuel consumptions, a work colleague has one and she's mirrored your comments.

70% of my driving is town or sitting in traffic, ie under 30mph so i think thats when the lexus really comes into its own

Actually a cousin of my dads had a 2007 one and lived in Bantry in Cork up until last year. There would have been serious miles on it too but she spent all day down the country roads and the fuel consumption was awful so she changed to a BMW X18d. That car took some abuse over and back to Lourdes in France couple of times a year. Never heard any complaints either.

If you're doing town driving it would be a very comfortable and relatively economical way of being stuck in traffic. :)

Have seen a few of the x1s around and i have to say i think there ugly, its just like a hatchback instead of a jeep.

And the sh*t off a shovel performance is a huge appeal with the rx also, when its needed

It's a 2010 model and while I have seen it I have no intention of ever travelling in it! Looks so awkward and just crap. I think it has near enough 90k km on it now already.

Been in the RX400h a few times and they can move when needed. I think it's 290bhp or something..

The only use for a hybrid really is city driving. Id say it would work urprisingly good mpg wise

Also, consider the battery lifespan and replacement costs. I don't have specifics but maybe check it out.

called into my local lexus garage a few weeks ago and they said the batteries have a 25 year warranty though

Tax gone up again on the poor rx! So €140 per month for tax onto of the repayments is a bit hard to swallow!

    Any other alternatives?

The latest one is only 330 a year to tax

Budget is c. mid 20's for low tax car or high teens for a high tax car, want something with a bit of style, unusual, good performance and decent mpg's.

PS i think the new one is pig ugly compared to the last, very bland and looks like a fat hatchback

Very nice machine to drive. For a big unit it sure does move. Can be deceptive speed-wise as its so refined - you wouldnt notice how fast you are going.

Economy-wise I would say 25mpg mixed driving would be accurate enough. If you want real hybrid economy look elsewhere. It is a large 4x4 at the end of the day.
