OH is looking to buy an 06 - 07 BMW 116, probably a 1.6 petrol. I dont know anything about the car so was looking to see if anyone had any experience with them good or bad, and if they are a reliable car.

Depends on whether the car has efficient dynamics (stop/start technology) the coil packs on the efficient dynamic models give/gave a lot of problems. I would be checking for a full service history and also ensure that you get a full warranty on it

They're fairly reliable, I sold a lot, and my sister has one. The only real fault in the 1 series which was common enough was the ABS module packing in. At the start, it cost nearly 2k to fix - but it became so common, BMW released a kit to fix the fault control unit for about 270.

They're a basic enough car, even in the SE/M Sport trim, they don't have a quality BMW feel IMHO, but they do drive well, and are nice and silent at speed on the motorway. If you could get one for the right price, they'd be a great motor to run for a few years and sell on again.
