    Hi Folks,

Does anyone know how much Boots are charging for the Winter Flu Vaccine Jab? I'm not located close to a store and would have to drive approx 1 hours to the nearest one and was wondering if the cost saving vs. going to a GP would make it worth while?

    Thanks in advance!

But surely you're located close to some other non-Boots pharmacy, aren't you?
It's not just Boots that offer the vaccine, you know.

I was specifically asking about the Boots cost

And by the way, even if you were right and only Boots did it, wouldn't the best way of finding your answer be to pick up the phone and ask them?

I didn't say Boots were the only ones doing it... I was looking for advice not to be remonstrated with - sigh ... closing the thread and thanks SO much for your helpful reponse

As locum-motion posted, the best way to find out the price at Boots is to phone them.

I've taken the liberty to access Boots' website on the OP's behalf and got the number for the Castlebar branch from here.

    It's (00353) 094 9060823.

Also, as mentioned, many independant pharmacies are offering influenza vaccination services at competitive prices. I'd be willing to bet it would be more convenient for you (and probably less total cost seeing as it is an 80km round trip) to visit your local pharmacy and ask them if they provide a vaccination service.

If you are unable to find the numbers of your local pharmacies (I'm going by your listed location btw), I've gone to the liberty of looking them up too. Clicky.

Boots in Dun Laoghaire charge 30 Euro to administer it, however this was my experience with them this morning.

I arrived at Boots Dun Laoghaire for my flu vaccine appointment at 11.00 this morning.
I was told to wait and then asked to complete a form.
I completed the form and paid the €30 vaccine administration fee.
I was told the vaccine was being warmed up and to wait. I asked how much longer I would have to wait and I was told “a few minutes”. The time then was 11.10
I had a meeting in work at 11.30. I waited for 15 minutes and at 11.25 I approached the counter again and explained that if they couldn’t administer the vaccine at that time I would have to cancel.
They said “the pharmacist had gotten tied up with other stuff”. So they cancelled and refunded me.

I asked them how long it should normally take to complete the process and they said 20-25 minutes. Then they said I should allow 30 minutes the next time.
I was not advised that it would take 30 minutes when I made the appointment in person yesterday. I was not advised of any duration.
I assume the vaccine was wasted and thrown out.
I originally thought to get the vaccine in the pharmacy rather than from my GP as I thought it would be more efficient to get it from the pharmacy.
I was wrong. Boots’ pharmacist’s unplanned other “stuff” was more important than the scheduled 1 hour I took off from work.
I will use my GP or possibly another pharmacy from now on.

I got it from my GP in Cork city, only took 10 minutes and cost €20. Nothing worse than the flu. Avoid it if you can. <snip>

was it 20 euro on top of the ordinary doctor fee?

If you didn't have an immune system the vaccine couldn't work. It works by stimulating your immune system in the same way as getting the flu would but by giving a much smaller dose so you don't have to suffer the ill effects. If you would rather build up your immune system by getting the flu feel free but stay away from the rest of us, especially those with chronic illnesses.

That time of year again, anyone know the prices this year, boots have none on their site.
