When i go to buy Call of Duty Modern Warfare on Amazon, its priced at 37.99 at the moment, with free super saver delivery, but when i put it into my basket and go through the checkout process, the final total is coming to 38.31?! Where is this other 32p coming from?!

Different VAT rate in Ireland and the UK.

Why doesnt it label this extra amount as VAT though?

It makes no reference to it on the VAT breakdown, it just shows total before VAT and the VAT amount, which comes to 37.99, no mention of what the 32p is, which is pretty bad form.

Just before you confirm the order there's a link to view vat details.

    Amazon.co.uk Order Summary

    Total before VAT: GBP 31.66
    VAT: GBP 6.65

    Order Total: GBP 38.31

Once they do over €35,000 worth of business here they are obliged to register and pay Irish VAT.

The upside of this is that our government get that VAT, not the UK.

If you use firefox there is a greasemonkey plugin which gives an estimate of the euro price which takes into account the VAT rate.

Apologies if this is slightly off topic but I thought it might be of interest to bargin hunters.

As you may know, Amazon will quote a euro price for stuff on their website but only on the very last page of the checkout process (where they convert it to Euro and add on Irish VAT). This is a bit of a pain so I've put together a GreaseMonkey script that shows you the euro price of an item (including Irish VAT) when you're on the product details page. It can be installed from here. If you'd like more details you can find them on my blog.
