My western Digital My Book is not being recognised by my iMac, I've had the Time Machine setup for over a year with no problems but I had to unplug it last month and when I plugged it back in it won't be recognised by the computer. When i try to setup a new time machine when I click 'select backup disk' it says that there is no disks recognised. Does anyone know how I can fix this, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I had the exact same issue with a Seagate drive last month, which has worked away happily for over a year. In the end, seems to have been a dodgy port on my USB hub. If your drive is connected via a hub, plug it into the imac directly and see if it is recognized. Sometimes the most obvious solution is the last one you check !

It is plugged straight into the Mac but I just changed USB and it worked.

    Thanks a million.

I had that problem. It died after only 4 months. I ended up buying a new housing with USB interface and It's been fine ever since.

happened to me with 2 mb pros one being the latest model and another older model with the older model i just assumed it was the mac playing up but after replacing my mb pro same issue started occuring changed usb wires etc made no difference, changed to one of those 'mac' wd external drives and had no problems since magic !
