I had one of these - Older version and it packed in after a few weeks.
    Just a heads up....

Mixed reviews is true, but I've had a 1TB linkstation for over a year and it's been rock solid, only one reboot needed in 12 months.

It's nearly full so I'll need to upgrade soon, thanks to OP.

I have an older Linkstation also and its rock solid.

No doubting about all those reviews with a high failure rate, though. Could've been a bad batch or something.

    Thanks OP

I had that exact same model NAS, in fact I'm waiting for a replacement 1 after it died a couple of months ago, I've been waiting (checks mails) since the 24th of October for a replacement.

IMVHO I wouldn't get 1 of these devices again, not only was the transfer rate to it very slow but the DLNA Server was very poor, it wouldn't update the latest content on the drive for hours, I tried every setting, for a finish I used to reboot the device manually and wait 15 minutes after copying my *ahem* backups to it. My problems may have stemmed from a faulty drive in it which died eventually, it also might have struggled because of the amount of content I had on it, but I've since gone back to my old WD and won't be going back to Buffalo any time soon.

Your experience seems to match lots of the reviews on Amazon,
very hit and miss. Pity really, mine's been nothing but positive.
Works perfectly and I've used it for the following:

    Streaming to xbox 360 wirelessly
Streaming to Boxee Box via a Homeplug
    Win 7 Machine
    Win Vista machine
    2 Win XP work laptops
    1 Ubuntu Netbook
    2 iPhones
    1 iPad 2

I was close to the 1TB capacity of content on it and it never gave me any problems.
Maybe I just got lucky with mine, but at that price, I think it's hard to beat and worth taking the chance.

I used mine to stream mainly to an Xbox 360, don't think I tired on the PS3, never streamed to my iphone either, it wouldn't work on my Qbox though even though my WD did with no problem.

I had this model and it died after 2 weeks. I lost access to all my files and Buffalo support is just useless. Transfer rates even on gigabit network are very poor, wouldn't recommend it

I bought the Pro version of this last January, it corrupted after a few months with a known fault- Technical support were good, but wouldn't help me recover my files, only wanted to get my unit back running again (so files would be lost) in the end I voided my warranty to recover my files. All i did was open the unit:rolleyes:

Then got it running again only for the hardrive to fail after another month or so - so now I have a paperweight as the warranty is void.

I could not recommend spending money on one of these.
