just a quick question. im going taxing my car tommorrow and i was just wondering do i have to tax it in my own local authority motor tax office or can i tax it at a different one?

i usually tax it at the south tipp motor tax office but wont be around the area for the next couple weeks so can i now tax it in the cork city tax office?

any help would be very much appreciated .

It should be in your own LA.
You can also do it online (www.motortax.ie)

I guess it can't be done online if the car has been off the road for a while before taxing?

True - postal application of RF100A signed & stamped by the gardai is required in that case (not mentioned in OP)

it was off the road for 3 months that is why i need to bring it into the tax office with the form signed by a garda identifying it was not been used in a pblic place during that period.

In the past, I've gotten the form signed and stamped and then photocopied it before posting it off.
Dunno how long it takes for postal applications to be received (esp. @ run up to Christmas) but it shouldn't take too long.

Thanks. I was asking for myself, didn't realise the OP was in a similar situation.:)

This may sound stupid, but do you have to post RF100A form, just after getting the car back on the road and it would almost be handier if i can just pop down to the local motor tax office myself after i get the form stamped.

The Garda only witnesses your signature; you make the statement and sign about the non-use.

You can visit the local motor tax office if you wish.

Correct. Anyone making false declarations may soon find out how common Garda ANPR systems are!

Also regarding Motor Tax, if(when) car tax is increased in the budget will this increase happen immediately or next month? My car is due for renewal this month so would like to tax it before the increase.
