Broken Christmas tree lights

We just took these out of last year's Christmas box. They were grand when we put them in on 6 January but now aren't working at all. Is there anything we need to double check or do they just break easily?

Hate when sets of lights break! You could go through each light to make sure the bulb didnt blow or is loose.. bit tedious. It's the only thing I can think of. Or if you dont have the patience for that homestore&more have a sale on all their lights.. all half price
