    Hi,

Just an FYI for anyone in the Cork area that is looking to get into cycling or join a cycling club in the new year.

Midleton CTC are planning to start a seperate Ladies Group in early January - there are currently a number of active lady members in the club and it is hoped to increase this over the next few months.

We will also be re-starting the beginners group 'roster' which we ran at the start of this year - whereby each week 2 of the more seasoned / experienced club members will take out a group of newer members of a short (25km) spin at a steady pace while also being on hand to pass on any advice regarding fitness, technique, bike set-up / maintainence etc.

We are also always looking for more experinced riders to join the club and we have quite active sportive, racing & triathlon sections in the club

Anyone interested can check out the club website - www.midletonctc.com, the club facebook page or PM me.

    Regards,
    Russ

    BUMP!

Made a New Year’s resolution to get fit or try something new? Got a bike for Christmas?
Well, after the festivities of Christmas & New Year the club cycles are back with a bang this Sunday - as well as the usual racing & sportives groups, this Sunday sees the start of 2 new groups – Ladies & Beginners, so feel free to come along this Sunday and check us out.
Beginners group will meet at 9am with the other groups and will do around a 25km fairly flat spin at a comfortable pace to suit all. There will be 2 experienced club members taking this group each week and this weeks road captains are Jon Waterman & Garry McGuinness – check out the club website www.midletonctc.com for contact details for any enquiries.
Ladies group will meet at 10 am, also at Midleton Courthouse and plan to do a 35km spin, again the pace will be comfortable enough to suit everyone on the day – road captain for the ladies group is Kadi.

I would really love to go to this (the ladies part). I have a touring bike though. Is it just for people with road bikes?

EDIT: Just re-read and see that ladies and beginners are two different groups. I'm a beginner lady but think my beginner-ness trumps my lady-ness so I'll be with them!

As far as I know, both groups will be treated as beginners, but whichever group you feel you will be most comfortable in join that one.

    See ya there!!!

As murf said, everyone will be looked after on both spins so either group will be fine for you.
No problem either regarding the touring bike, only requirement is a helmet.

Great turnout for spins on Sunday morning - especially for the ladies group.

14 ladies turned up for the 10am start and did a 35km spin.

a total of 17 turned up for the main club spin at 9am including 5 new faces.

so welcome to everyone and hope to see you all again this weekend and anyone else interested is more than welcome to come along.

Sweet lads. Probably see ye there this Sunday god willing.

Was on the Midelton site and noticed the membership form etc.

do I need to have that filled in and sent off beforehand or can I just show up?

Im really interested in getting involved in a club at this stage. I have come a certain way by myself and its time to move up a notch. I imagine, like most sports, you try harder and improve quicker when you are pushed by others around you.

Anyway It would be good crack I imagine. Especially with this Sean Kelly night coming up

sure come along sunday and see how you get on - can always send in a membership form after that.

you should def see your speed go up while riding in a group - 100km on your own is tough but in a group your not riding into the wind all day so makes it a bit easier and it's also more fun!

    :)
