TV3 Midweek rubbish

Did anyone see Midweek about the difference in shopping in the north to the south.

It was absolute rubbish, stating the south was in fact as cheap as the north.
Who made such a badly produced program, they must have vested interests.

Typical TV3 rubbish, made on a shoestring by crrap program researchers.

Was it rubbish because of its production values or because you disagreed with its point of view?

Both, point of view biased by I assume the sponsors and production as it is very badly made.

For me it is actually cheaper to shop in the south. Unless they make petrol free in the budget of course. I imagine this is true for most people too.

I suppose it depends where you live, if near the border, its a no brainer.

If comparing same shops such as tesco's. argos, debenhams etc it is still cheaper in the north.

Some shops down here such as laura ashley seem to still be using a rate of 1 euro equals 68 pence.

Here's not the place to debate the substantive issue. Talk about the programme specifically or take it elsewhere.

That is a serious allegation to make. If you have a complaint do so to the station in the first instance and then to the BAI if unhappy. If the programme has sponsors the product placement logos would be shown and the sponsors normally credited at the end.

I saw a bit of the programme, thought it was fair enough. Going north is bit of a false economy when you add it up. My gripe with these programmes is that they obsessed with the price of alcohol.

If you live within an hours drive of the north it's very worthwhile...as long as you're willing to switch around brand names. Offers in Asda are a lot better than anything in the south.

Poundland/Dealz is a prime example where saving are made. Same shop just a different name. In letterkenny all the items are 1.49, in Strabane they're just 1 pound. So if you're going to spend more than 20 euro in Dealz Letterkenny you'd save if you drove to Strabane.

Once you're in Strabane you can save another 30 euro or so on a weekly 150 euro shop if you pop into asda.

    BAI already informed.

    Did you complain to TV3?

That's what the BAI will tell you to do.

they did say that a lot of people complained that they didnt put enough alcohol in their basket last year which is why it was a focus.

anyway some stuff is cheaper but when you add on the price of petrol (even if you live near the border (its a 45min drive for me to enniskillen)

i used to buy wine i the north but its pretty much more expensive up their now than here (lidl offer this week €19.96 for 6 bottles £15.16 (€17.68) in NI not worth the hassle of driving)

    It's still a false economy.

Where do you think the money for the social welfare, childrens allowance etc comes from?!?

Do you want to work in Northern Ireland?

    Etc. Etc.

However, the BAI may not consider your complaint if you have not first complained to the broadcaster.

    See here: http://www.bai.ie/?page_id=115

Mind you TV3 don't have an obvious Complaints procedure which they are required to have. You'll actually find it buried in "Corporate".
