What is the situation re kids driving quad bikes in an estate. An estate is public under road traffic isn't it. Found some info here and on the one linked to it

But kids would not be able to get a licence under any conditions would they? I think they go to a field but actually drive thru estate to it. No lights/ helmets

If they're driving through the estate, then they require lights, license plate, license, insurance, tax, helmet, etc.

If you call the Gardai, they tend to respond quickly. They have the power to confiscate the vehicle. But, in many situations, the inform the kids that they can't ride it around and need to go to a specific tack/field, where they can ride their quads.

they ride through the estate to get to the field. I do not know if they have permission be in field either, it is just a field not a specifically for quads

What age would they have to be to get a licence? 16?

They would have to comply with construction of vehicle regs (lights, license plate) and tax/insurance. A similar issue occurred recently near where I live relating to a off-road motorbike which was not taxed and insured, and driving through an estate to get to a derelict site. The Gardai threatened to lawfully confiscate it for no tax/insurance. It was sold the next week. No more problems.

If they're using the field, they should have the consent of the landowner. He could also be liable for any injuries they sustain on his property, so it's in his interests to deal with the issue too. In general, most don't have permission and the landowner isn't necessarily aware of their use of the field.

License age depends on the cc of the bike but 16 is generally old enough up to 125cc
