Got my car serviced in new place in pavilions today. The guy booked it in and said it would take about 40 mins.. over 2 hours later I was still waiting with my very hungry son. Not on at all. Has anyone else experienced their very poor customer service.

They just did a standard service nothin too complicated. The chap that I paid said everything was in good condition he was actually very nice and kept saying how sorry he was about the delay. Not once did the guy that told me it would take 40 mins explain anything.

Anyone servicing a car in 40mins is not doing everything they should there's so much more to a service then just changing the oil and filters anyone can do that.its knowing what to check and how to check it and how to prevent things from happening is wat makes a good mechanic and a good service.i know it will take me between 1.5 hours to 2 hours to do a proper service.so of I was u and he done it in 40 mins I wouldn't be happy.

What car is it? There is not such thing as a standard service on modern car. Did they give a reason for the delay?

Personally I'd be slow to use such a service, they are in the car park of a shopping centre, and doing a "service" for €89

Its a 2010 suv all that was replaced was the oil and filter as far as I can see on a report they gave me.

Main audi dealers are doing services for €99 so?

Is the type of 'SUV' a secret?

I've seen the price these guys are charging, and you'd want to be very sure that the manufacturer required spec of oil has been used.

Oil change services starting at €99 maybe and there is no way an Audi SUV(if thats what the OP happened to have) would only be €99.

Also if its a 2010 you can forget about warranty if the car had a 2 year one..

They were hiring 4 full time mechanics so I'd assume they have a premesis?

Not they are a registered garage and they have used an oe quality filter and the correct grade of oil and followed any other manufacturer required scheduals.

However, I suspect a serviceinacarpark operation will fall short of many warranty requirements.

Sorry it was a chrysler grand voyager the man said it would be cheaper because the car only takes semi synthetic oil.

I got my petrol A5 done under that offer. Diesels are €119 and yes if its a 2.0 diesel SUV, a basic service will be covered under that price. Wash and vacuum also. Its stunning value to be fair.

They've a premises out the feltrim road. Car park thing is merely a convenience gimmick. Still wouldn't touch them though.

You originally said "Got my car serviced". Despite the traditional Irish view in car maintenance, having the oil changed is nothing close to a service.

Presumably partly this cheap to get people into dealerships, get them using genuine parts and hopefully flog them a new motor!

So long as original manufacturer's parts (filters etc) were fitted and you have their invoice don't worry about losing warranty. Is the gripe that the initial guy didn't say sorry to you? Or is it just the length of time? Or that no one suggested you go away for an hour or two and feed yourself and your son?
If it's a new business why don't you write to them and explain that you were misinformed. They will appreciate the feedback, hopefully apologise and look after you in the future.

They take almost 7 liters of a specific 0w40 fully synthetic low ash oil....the oil its self would be the guts of €100 retail on its own let alone filter and a proper vehicle inspection.

So you now have no warranty on a vehicle with extremely expensive dealer parts:eek:

I said I got my car serviced because I was told it was getting serviced for e89 I didn't realise they were only goin to change the oil and filter.

No doubt. They will also do their best to sell additional stuff at service time and they generally know that most cars will need something more than oil change acording to servie schedule and may do ok on it then.
When my car was new, the first oil change cost €220. The offer price is down to recession no doubt as service manager was saying he had 8 guys to keep busy in the workshop.

Yeah it was just the fact that the first guy didn't seem to have a clue what wadms goin on in the garage he was just walking around the garage with his head up his arse shouting orders. There was a guy that did repeatedly apologise and did offer to go get my son somethin to eat and he said he'd text me a voucher for e15 off a coolant flush. So he's the reason ill go back.

And the fact that they said you only needed semi synthetic oil in a modern DPF fitted common rail diesel engine is the reason you should never go back....and should have that oil changed again as soon as possible if you want any longevity from your car.

Oh and as an aside....a grand voyager is not an SUV;).

Was thinking the same, strange that they would put in the wrong oil then

Op you need to find out what oil they used.

It is a disaster if they have a fitted a spurious filter and listed the completely wrong oil on the invoice. Surely there must be an approved oil available for something in the region of €60? Im not foolish enough to believe they actually used it though.

A 2010 model should have the 2.8 crdi engine, the 2.5crdi finished in the old model in 08.

Perhaps the OP has an old model that was sitting around for a couple of years before being sold. Its not like they run out of the showroom anyway.

I don't know are they the same company but I used the one in Ballincollig for my Alfa 156. Grand oil and filter change and check over for €89. No problems in 50k miles. Only needed 10w40 semi mind you. They said they used shell oils.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

The one in Ballincollig has 2 drums of GEM oil being used right inside the door.

Cheaper than what? Was what they charged not the price advertised? I'd like to see a pic of the voyager and a pic of the invoice too. THis thread has more or less named and shamed them, new poster too.

    What engine have you got?

All Alfa 156 engines require fully synthetic oil anyway, especially important on the petrols as an engine so prone to oil related issues/noise.

And when you say no problems in 50k miles?? When was it last changed?

It sounds to me like they just have big drums of cheaply bought 10w40 and put it into everything knowing it would be impossible to blame them for engine problems a few years down the line....

Are you serious? The twin sparks uses 10w40 semi. You can chance a synthetic 5w40 or 10w60 but it's not necessary. I change the oil every 6-9k and have done so since I had the car I got it and still do now that the gf has it. Over 100k on it now and still going strong. If anyone made comments like that saying they use generic barrels of 10w40 you'd be the first to jump at them. There's no basis for saying that. A friend got a TDI serviced there and they confirmed it was the correct VAG spec oil. Maybe they are lying but that's a whole different matter.

As I said I haven't used <snip> now in a while, I do the changes myself now. I asked and they said they used shell oil I didn't see any evidence against that. I don't even know why I'm standing up for them I just found them fine.

If people made an assumption about the type of oil being used I would comment on it....
However, I made my comment about this company based on the fact that there are two cars in this thread, which, as far as I'm concerned, have had the wrong oil put into them. A 10w40 semi is not even close to what should be used in a grand voyager and all the listings I have for the oil spec for the Alfa petrol engines say fully synthetic(of which 10w40 is one of the optional grades, depending on climate/use) which is what I'd be putting in if I was servicing it.

I'd be more worried about my warranty going down the tubes rather then the wrong type of oil to be honest.

It wont do any damage in the very short term but I would change it soon to the correct grade of oil and put an oem filter on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Agree on the Grand Voyager, on the Alfa side almost everyone I know and spec charts I've looked at say semi synthetic 10w40 (Fiat 9.55535-G spec) but maybe I'm wrong.

If the correct oil spec and service schedules followed then the warranty isn't effected.
