    Hey all

Been told the timing belt needs changing on my Freelander which is a pain but has to be done. On top of this it looks like the head gaskets gone as its not holding water and the oil is a milky coffee colour! Anyone have any idea what I could expect to pay ? Also anyone recommend anywhere close to balbriggan as I don't fancy driving it in case I make it worse.

    Thanks all

    Jj

Well the timing belt + associated parts have to come off to remove the head so there should be no extra labour cost involved in fitting a new belt kit on top of the a HG repair.

A complete and correct head gasket replacement with all required parts and work would be in the region of €700-800 IMO assuming no further damage has been done by continuous overheating.

Great that's at least a little bit of good news and thanks for the quick response. I'll make a few calls to the local garages Monday get it in asap

Can't help with a mechanic but any competent one should be able to do it, doesn't need an LR specialist. There's an upgraded steel head gasket that reduces the instances of them failing on K series engines.

Do ya know what we only done one of them not so long ago along with fitting a new clutch also.it looked bad but when I got stuck into it.it was straight forward enough.as stated any half decent mechanic should be able to do it.provided its not someone chancing there arm.as things could go horribly wrong.I actually had that car returned to the customer in 3.5 days just to give u a time frame
