Will a career break affect citizenship application

Hi all, was hoping someone could give us some advice on this issue. My husband is eligible to apply for citizenship in February. Since August of 2009 he has been employed by the same company- he got permanence six months after he started. We have just had our third child and I am due to return to work in February. We had thought about my husband taking a career break to look after the children for a year as we simply cannot afford the childcare- my salary has taken considerable cuts etc. Would this affect his application for citizenship, should he just keep working and struggle through. Thanks for your help

I have seen the claiming of social welfare as a reason for refusal. But as I assume ye will not claim any social welfare including FIS, it should not go against you. But to be honest you can not be sure some of the reasons I have seen would make your head spin.

But to be honest the application times should be down to 6 months by the time he applies so to be safe i would stay working, I know there won't be much left over after baby sitter paid but rather be safe than sorry.

Just in case anyone is thinking I am saying this would lead to a refusal, I'm not in fact I would be very surprised if it did but just for the sake of a few short months is it woth the worry. I Also assume he is claiming based on spouses Irish Citizenship.

Yes, he is claiming as spouse. Thanks so much think you're right we will just hang in there as best we can until after application processing. It is so frustrating though as we are eligible for FIS now and for a medical card and we cannot apply for either, hopefully we will win the lotto!!! Thank you very much for your sound advice, much appreciated.

My own opinion is that a refusal due to claiming a medical card or FIS is wrong, but unless someone takes a challenge to the HC then what can we do. In any case the Minister has an absolute discretion so he can refuse and give no reason. But that whole issue is still up in a heal and needs sorting.
