Drinking versus smoking.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping the posters in here will be able to settle a friendly arguement I had in work today with a friend while we discussed drinking and smoking.
One of us taught that drinking alcohol was worse for your health than smoking and I taught the other way round that smoking was worse.
I did a quick google search on the web but couldn't find an answer that filled me with confidence. Does anyone have any opinion as to which is worse for your health.

Depends on the level of drinking involved.

Moderate drinking vs moderate smoking I'd say smoking. Don't have any evidence to back it up to hand but at least with moderate drinking you can do something about the adverse effects with diet etc.

Once you up the ante on the drinking to where it starts directly causing adverse effects I don't know.

I would think alcohol is not as bad as smoking. Sure isnt a little glass of red wine once in a while supposed to be good for your heart? Or perhaps its some junk research i read once....
