Just wondering if NCB is transferable to another country?

For instance could I take my Irish NCB to Britain for instance and use it on a new policy or do I have to start from scratch again?

It is easily transferable to the UK provided you would no longer hold a policy in Ireland.

In my brothers case who recently emigrated to the UK and who had a 3 year NCB here in Republic of Ireland before emigrating...For his first insurance in the UK he was given some bit of recognition for his Irish NCB but not the equivalent of 3 years NCB if he had acquired such driving in the UK. In fact his insurance was quite high for first year of driving in the UK so they must not be giving him too much recognition for his Irish driving experience all the same. He was told by same company that he should expect his insurance to drop considerably next renewal time (assuming no claims or change in his particulars) as they will then treat him as having 4 years NCB...if that all makes sense.

I would assume it not only depends on the country (I'm unsure if your question is a hypothetical one and you just used the UK as an example or perhaps you are specifically referring to UK), it may be very different for different countries you are emigrating to. Not only that but I'm sure it would differ for differing individuals with different particulars going to different insurance companies in the same country. For example I'm sure it it may well be the case that some UK companies may not have provided my brother with any discount for his Irish driving exp while maybe more might have allowed him 3 yrs NCB if he had looked hard enough.

I think its one of these questions that will very much depend on differing factors, one answer is never going to fit all circumstances....as often seems to be the case with motor insurance queries
