I was thinking of investing in a scanner. i have heard that they have come down in price. Has anyone any idea what a 2nd hand scanner would cost and any dealers names. There are plenty of possible customers in my area
    Thanks

Is this a pregnancy scanner ? you would want to be well experienced ,have had the chancers... not worth it unless you know what you are doing

A few years ago we had to get in specialist scanners, now at least 2 AI men in our area offer the service.
I could be as far out as a lighthouse here but I think one of them told me it cost him €12K to get set up .

The equipment itself is extremely expensive!! Don't hold me on this but im nearly certain that eddie lynchs scanning equipment cost near 40 grand:eek: but thats what I heard.
Any person would be able to tell you if she's incalf or not with the equipment but a good scanner will tell you why she isnt in calf or if she's going to abort down the line and bad scanners work could but a farmer in the red fairly easily and leave him in a bad position.
Is there not courses you can do?? not saying that you mighted be good at it but they could show ya things that ya might not know or help ya with some aspects that ya might not be good at.
Best of luck with it if ya decide to go ahead with it because there can great money in it if ya get a good name for yourself..

have had my fair share of crap scanning people over the years, one lad perforated a few cows -which died due to this- he is still scanning but not on my farm... another guy ,a vet, said some where in calf when they where not and said some where not in calf- which i estrumated and they threw calves  ... also the equipment seems to break very easy and can take a while to get fixed... the fella that scans for me now takes his time and does the job right
