My iPhone 4 won't charge — I tried a number of cables and methods. What is the fastest way to get this fixed? Bring it back to a Vodafone store (it was purchased from Vodafone online on bill pay) or get in touch with Apple? I have the phone about 14 months and this is the first problem I have encountered with it.

I have done all to on off on stuff along with trying numerous leads, chargers etc. It is now dead so I cant do anything else.

Have you tried a hard reset? Hold the home and power buttons together for just over 10 seconds and you'll see the apple logo appear. That should fix it.

Guys, I've had the same problems with my 3gs. It wont charge and randomly dies with 40 -80 % battery left. Fitted new battery and no better !

So after a bit of research I discovered thousands of similar cases. It appears to be a software glitch in ios5.0 and 5.0.1. So if anyone is thinking of updating then my advice is to hold out till this has been resolved.

On a brighter note, I managed to get mine charged by switching it off and then charging it and it hasn't cut out in the last few hours, though funny enough, my battery level hasn't budged from 75%

Apple's really gone and f**ked this one up

Well touch wood my phone hasn't cut out today yet and seems to be ok. It's still not perfect as the battery is still showing 75%. Hasn't budged all day !!

Give them a call and play the oul' long time customer spiel and you'll probably get it sorted.

Apple can be quite lenient with regards to warranty. You're only 2 months out of warranty and this is quite a major problem, so if you call up their call centre they may waive the €211 charge. I've seen it done for a number of people.

I'd imagine it's a faulty dock connector, you'd be looking at €50max to fix it with a repair shop.

    Edit**
I'd usually steer people away from DIY fixes on an iphone4 unless they are very competent at carefully removing and labelling where everything goes.
I've seen people break battery sockets, snap button flexes, crack motherboards, break screens, ring screws, knock off smc's all trying to do a button/dock/screen swap

Fastest way - buy a new one. Ring around and find the first available one.

What you should do - get vodafone to repair the unit free of charge. You bought it from them. It's 14 months, not a reasonable time frame (they sell them on 2 year contracts), Sale of Goods and Supply of Services act is on your side.

Use a crappy phone till then. Borrow one or buy then resell.
