I am in ireland and I want to fly to Austria for a short snowboarding weekend. What I am looking for is the most convenient place to go to in Austria. Basically, when I land at the airport, i want to be able to hop on a train and be at the resort in no more than 1.5 hours. Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

OP you can fly to Salzburg with Aer Lingus and be in Kitzbuhel in about 1.5 hours. There's most likely other resorts in the area not too much further away.

RATM, thanks so much for your response. That is exactly what i am looking for. 1.5 hours doesn't seem to bad, is that on a train? Is the train station in the airport? Are there any resorts closer to Salzburg? I am willing to go anywhere, just trying to minimize cost and time.

How about flying into Munich? I did a quick google and there are a lot of Austrian resorts within 1.5 hours, including St. Johann:

Thats a good idea. Thanks for that. I think my initial gut is fly to austria because i don't want to take a bus to get to the resort. Want to stick to train. Hopefully someone comes through with a detailed travel plan on what to do. Would like to fly into Salzburg as suggested above.

It may be no harm to ask in the Winter Sports forum, you'll get regular skiers and snowboarders who can give good advice based on experience.

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a shot there. Find it a bit difficult to locate forums on this site. I'm still getting use to it.

Have a look at www.obertauern.com, we are flying to salzburg in early january, we got the name of a transport company off the website, and they charge 53 euros return from salzburg airport direct to your accommodation - obertauern is 90km from salzburg so transfer is just over an hour from the airport
