Any ideas for making them look better?
Dont like the idea of repainting really.

sand them down and varnish if there good quality, otherwise put up with them or sell:)

Sanding is a great thing but the time and hours spent put me off, I may try it tho! Wondering how they would look if i were to 'distress' them.

Panel doors? Flush? Timber? MDF/ply? Would help to know.

Distressing is a lot of work if you want the authentic look, more work than a re-paint.

They arent sold wood so I guess they may be ply, you know, the lightweight ones with four relief panels..Sanding is out in that case I suppose.

So they're the fake 4 panel mdf/ply... first if they're glossed I'd suggest eggshell them, that at least tones them down, an off white rather than brillinat white...it'll make for a softer feel to them.
Distressing them would be an option but google it to see how much work is involved...to get that whitewashed old furniture look can take a lot of messing about with sandpaper, wax, basecoats and such.

[edit] Obviously all the above involves painting, which you want to avoid. How about doorless entry ways? :)
