If you buy this from Apple.ie you can probably take advantage of the student discount.

    Apple Education Store

They start at €1080 for the 21.5" model.

Decent one? What's wrong with the entry level iMac for €1149? As Dub said above, you'll get it for 1080 with the student discount.

Alternatively, have a look on the refurb store. Discounts can be as high as 20 or even 30 percent on older models. There's no iMacs on there at the moment, but it's updated every day, usually around midnight.

    Or build a hackintosh. :D

You can put together higher spec hardware and save some money too.

But the refurb store (Apple) would be a good place for you to start. Some good deals there.

I would advise Ubuntu or windows 7 before a hackintosh.

Thanks for your help , bought the refurbished one and got discount etc and three year warranty for 1105. As Tesco say "every little helps"

Are you looking for the aluminium case or would you be willing to take an old model white iMac? 24" White iMac, 2.33GHz Core2Duo CPU, 3GB RAM and 1TB Hard drive. A friend will be selling his soon - might be on Adverts by the weekend.
