Go to your local motor factors, They will be able to check it for you.
    What issues are you having?

As its getting colder and wetter, I get the feeling that it is getting more and more reluctant to start in the morning - its kinda hard to put my finger on it.

Get a high discharge test done on the battery.

I had to replace the battery in my bangernomics omega today as the original 10 year old unit failed yesterday. Went into the local motor factors at ~10am today and he told me it was the 4th battery sold in an hour! :D

Most likely your battery dying. Colder weather hits it hardest.

Failing that it could possibly your Starter motor.. It doesn't screech when you start up does it?

First this is go to your local Motor Factors and get your battery checked.

Are your lights dimming as revs drop and getting brighter as they climb?

No - Lights are staying constant. Starter motor doesnt screech.

What about heater plugs? - how often do you need to replace them?

Are you allowing the glow plugs to do their job? Do you wait for the preheat light to go off? I had this engine too and often needed to two preheats to ensure a quick start up on very cold days.

Batteries are less efficient when cold, so slightly lazier starting is not unusual.

If the car is doing short runs, I'd recommend giving a good charge perhaps every 3-4 weeks as there is a big load in starting a diesel.

Finally, if you do change, keep an eye out for calcium batteries which can take a greater sudden discharging load.

Yep always wait for the preheat light to go off. I've been driving diesels all my life and am aware that they require more battery to start than petrols. Thanks for the advice.

    I am just wondering op
    |After 4 days of suggestions are you going to get the battery checked to eliminate that?
