Mazda 6 boot open button/warranty

Hi. My 2008 Mazda 6 saloon developed a fault whereby the boot would open while driving.

The switch/button was replaced under warranty and now it's gone again. This time not opening at all when pressed. The only way to open the boot is to use the key remote.

My Mazda dealer tells me that Mazda won't cover a replacement as the car is just out of warranty. I queried how long parts replaced under warranty were guaranteed for and was told that the guarantee was only valid while the car was under warranty.

Is this standard across the motor manufacturing industry?

if the replacement part has not solved the problem then Mazda will have to replace it free i would of thought, the part is clearly not fit for purpose so don't see how you can be asked to pay for a replacement.

i'd push them on it, politely of course.

    good luck.

While I believe it is true that warranty repairs won't extend the original warranty, you should still push them on this. It is a problem that occurred inside warranty period and you can argue that it is an ongoing issue that has not be satisfactorily addressed to date.

Thanks all. Can't remember when switch was replaced under warranty but it's prob 1 1/2 years ago and the car is out of warranty 5 months now.

The switch was dodgy every now and then and I never let them know, regretfully.

Mazda have been tough on other issues Luke rust spots on the roof which they claim are stone chips although I have larger chips on the bonnet and no rust.

Disappointed with the build quality of the car overall. Lots of little things and then of course the DPF. Bought it after having a 626 some years ago. But Mazda don't have the quality they used to have.
