Bringing in a X5 from the UK anyone know any where in Dublin that will convert it for me into commercial or could I do it myself? Rip out the back seats black out the windows, box over the rear foot well and carpet it. Would that be enough to get it through revenue?

No. You have to vrt them within 24 hours of bringing them into the country.

you do, but youll still be paying 36% on it, no more 50 euro for commercials, may aswell vrt it now then convert it, makes no odds anymore

    Get it converted up north?

Can you still do that? Or does the rule about them having to be factory built only apply to brand new? Even then, VRT on commercial jeeps is 13.3% unless it is over 3500kg gvw.

Even if you can, it's not a case of blacking out the windows etc for the revenue, you have to plate the windows, weld up the seatbelt anchorages, put permanent flat floor in etc basically destroying the interior.

As Eric says, I think you are going to cop 36% VRT. You can then commercialise once it's registered, you don't have to do so much to satisfy a DOE inspection. Is it worth it to save a few Euro on motor tax, you're spending a load on the vehicle anyway?

Loads for sale here now. Unless there is something very specific about the one you're bringing in I reckon it would save a lot of hassle to just buy an Irish one.

even still, just find one here with the engine and exterior colour you want, seats, satnav, carpets, extras - buy from a breakers in the uk , would still work out cheaper

the days of buying cheap 4x4s in the uk and converting them for 50 euro vrt arent coming back, it was a good racket while it lasted though
