Just back from the Czech Republic and a nice fellow in an Antique shop gave me this medal as a present! :)

    CESKOSLOVENSKA SOCIALISTICKA REPUBLIKA
    SLOVENSKE NARODINE POVSTANIE 1944-1964

Medal commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. On August the 29th 1944 different factions rose up against the Germans. The fighting continued for around two months, thereafter the uprising transformed into guerrilla warfare until the liberation.

This is a repost from the Victory thread, but I might as well start a Czech thread here...
In the same shop that I was given the above medal I bought this WW1 Czech Victory medal. :-)

What does your absinthe taste like? Last we tried was bitter evil stuff! But flammable, very very flammable

    What is Slivovic?

Its a bit like poitin only made from plums. Very drinkable stuff.

I would avoid the absinthe if I were you.

I had a wee nip of it last night. It tastes differently than what I remember. As it fills your mouth it tastes quite nice- sweet with a hint of liquorice, but then when you swallow it all hell breaks loose at you then remember that this is 70% alcohol. Your mouth, throat and stomach goes on fire. You gasp for air as your eyes water and your lungs burn. Then you repeat the process. ;)
Not one to drink all night!

Does it contain wormwood? If it does, perhaps your dancing pigs might start talking to you.

Got this lovely present from my niece. :) This is one big heavy lump of bronze!!

Czech WW1 "Medal of the Revolution" with "34" on the ribbon with I assume is the recipients unit citation. I will have to look into it further.

This medal was awarded to all volunteers of the Czechoslovak Army who enlisted before the proclamation of the Provisional Government in Paris and to others who had rendered military or political services towards the independance of Czechoslovakia.
The bronze medal was instituted by the Provisional Government in Paris on 1st July 1918 and consists of a cross lying on a broad circle. On the obverse cross stands a winged horse with a horseman in the nip holding a flag.
On the riband between the cross arms is the legend "VZHURU NA STRAZ SVOBODNY NA'BODE" (Keep good watch, free nations).

The reverse has a winged female figure holding a stone block over her head, while at her feet are snakes. On the stone is the text "ZA ZVOBODY" (For Liberty).
