When this was first announced I thought this was going to be a lazy cash grab. But I feel completely confident in the opinion that the documentary is probably WWE's best ever neck and neck with the Rise & Fall of ECW.

I cant believe something so strong came so soon after the amazing Bret Shawn Greatest Rivalries DVD. If you are a wrestling fan of any description you must watch this. Very inside and Steve just telling it like it is.

A match probably with the Rock
    A match probably with HHH
A match probably with The Undertaker

All of which youve seen a zillion times.

    #kickpunchstunner :P

I've fallen far too far behind on my DVD purchasing. I'll probably pick them up in bulk at some stage.

This deserves it's own thread, does it? :pac:

I'm up to the mid-97 in the documentary (~46 minutes in). It's enjoyable to run down his career (and refreshing to hear Austin talk normally and get bleeped as opposed to censoring himself) but nothing i'd consider must buy. Like not much you didn't know already. The mention of alternative names for Stone Cold was hilarious, but hearing Austin say the word "orgasm" (re:WM13) twice was a bit embarassing! Although tbh booking-wise it was definitely a pinnacle for WWF.

That said disc 1 is 2.5 hours long and i'm looking forward to see how they tackle 2001-2003. I hope Rovert's right about it!

WWE definitely on a roll lately with Bret vs Shawn and Orton's DVD.

What do you expect out of the most documented and greatest career of all time?

This is simply one of if not the greatest career ever told realisticly as perfect as it could be.

Have it ordered on Blu-Ray for christmas!

First time I'll ever have actually gotten one of the dvds/blurays at full price.

That's what I mean, everyone's seen and heard pretty much it all before. That said, it's refreshing to see people shoot about stuff (Even the narrator says 'Austin was getting sugery so they had to explain his on-screen disappearance') and it's an easy watch. But anyone that's either been around for it or watching any of his ten billion DVDs won't find much new in it.

They brought up the Hall/Lesnar disappointments from 02 (no Coach, lol) and was handled well imo. V happy to see Tough Enough get a mention, he was fantastic on that show, story-wise it made sense to put the HoF last.

If you've never seen an Austin DVD or been around for it i'd definitely say a must buy. But otherwise it's just a retelling of a story you already know; v well done, mind you.

    Really?

I thought it was ridiculous that they were making out that the match against Punk at WM 27 was a real fight. When they're interviewing Orton the night before he even says "the number 1 goal tomorrow is to get the victory"

    Austin DVD

I don't think I can justify paying £21 just for the documentary. If only they would have thrown a few rare matches on it then I would have bought it.

Seen all the matches before apart from the Chris Adams match.

I don't wanna bring the thread off-topic; but although making out that Orton/Punk at Mania was a huge deal, which it wasn't, i thought it was fine. I was more really interested in the daily grind he did (travelling, interviews, warm-ups) and talking frankly about his douchebag early years, deserting the marines etc. I thought it was cool when he was deciding what colour jocks to wear lol. Having watched wrestling for a long time i'm more interested in seeing footage i haven't seen before. Unfortunately it wasn't all shoot but a worked shoot. But overall i thought the DVD was really great, despite me disliking Orton these days.

He has had his best in ring year ever.

    Your opinion is incorrect :pac:

No it is perfectly fine to not like him. I can see why people don't but I have always found him excellent. He has all that a main event wrestler should have, even though he is a natural heel.

Anyway on topic this sounds interesting. I thought the Bret/Shawn interview was underwhelming but this could be good.

In fairness, not every single line where somebody says they don't like someone needs 1000 words detailing why they don't like them. Speaking from experience, I know that it doesn't end well. He doesn't like him and that's fair enough.

And he's been WWE's MVP this year. I hate the guy but he's been spectacular this year. The way he works and his timing are just off the charts.

It is a discussion forum. I am not asking for 1000 words so don't play that card.

Despite the grave offence that asking someone to elaborate on an opinion may cause I feel for the purpose of discussion and clarity to request the privilege of you explaining why you hate Orton to me.

    Your opinion is incorrect :pac:

Let me tell you why your opinion is wrong... Absolutely the most obnoxious type of posts.

If you care, his feuds with Punk and Christian did absolutely nothing for them; at a time where both desperately needed to get the rub, for their and WWE's sake. Orton's in-ring work is irrelevant to me since his character and promos are so damn stale. Those two reasons is why I don't care for orton. He "let" Henry go over and SmackDown saw a massive jump in viewers. Hopefully he won't steamroll Barrett since Cody didn't get that big win.

Why couldn't you just said "it is how he is booked" rather than replying just with "so what?" causing this rancour and having people accuse me of being a type of poster than I certain am not?

I disagree with your opinion some what on the level we don't totally know whose call the booking of Orton's character is - whether it is just Vince or if Orton is just being selfish. But the end result is the same I agree with there. Regardless in ring bell to bell Orton has been awesome in my opinion.

I don't really know, something about him has always irked me, I never really look forward to his matches. Though that's not to say his matches haven't been phenomenal this year. He's really found his groove as a face and he's been one of the best in the world this year. It's a strange little paradox.

He has always been "quirky" I get ya no question. I think it took a long time to both find himself as a heel and as a babyface.

    Oh...where is the egg-on-face smiley :o

Anyway, back to Stunning Steve. I hope they overcome the issue of prior knowledge of a lot of these stories. That seemed like the problem with the Bret/Shawn interview. Well that and JR not being a great interviewer along with editing out some of the interesting stuff (where was the the discussion on the backstage fight they had?!).

Watched it last night. Hadn't watched an Austin DVD before, still knew most of the stuff on it already but thought it was great anyway. Could listen to Austin talk all day.
Best part for me was the bit about WM19. What happened the night before, how he knew that was his last match, what happened in the ring with The Rock after the match and how Rock left the ring first. Loved that bit, really enjoyed hearing about the relationship between the two. Didn't know about that stuff and it was probably the most emotional I've ever seen him, you could see how much that moment meant to him. Gained more respect for The Rock too.
Of the lighter stuff, I loved all the footage of Austin after the shows went off the air when he pretty much just got drunk and had fun with the audience. The man is a born entertainer.

As for Randy Orton (:pac:) I don't like him either. His character bores me to tears. Long intense stare, look intense, look intense, pose for camera, talk about punt kick to the head. He's pretty good in the ring alright but he doesn't do it for me overall. Best thing he's done this is year is lose to Cody and Ziggler.

found a copy of this in a treasure chest at sea. The blue ray version. Where is the audio commentary on the matches!?

Unfortunate that he so many injuries, if not we would have seen a lot more "3:16" and a lot less "what?". He said Vince hadn't even watched him in ECW, that's where the stone cold character really began. Then they bring him in as the Ringmaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I found that ECW to WWF bit hilarious --
    Stone Cold : "i couldn't wrestle a lick but i could talk"
Vince McMahon : "we brought him in because he was such a great in-ring wrestler"

    :p

also loved the Jericho comparing McMahon's stunner bump to a waterbottle

Just checking but you do realise Austin was badly injured post WCW , yeah?

Watched the 1st DVD last night.

Is my all time favourite. and brought back all the memories of what we are missing in the WWE today.

The story lines are so so bad now compared to the attitude era.

The stuff he did when heel and was like Vinces puppy was hilarious.

Theres a part where he copies what Vince is saying and Undertaker is trying his best not to crack up is brilliant and had me in tears with laughter.

Seriously he need to come back as a commentator or something because the WWE is a loss without him

Ya that bit was hilarious! I think creatively it was a good decision to try out a heel Austin to freshen his character, even if it failed and was a bad business decision (since Rock was leaving and with Austin heel they're out of a top face to carry the company). Definitely some funny stuff in there. Or maybe if the inVasion angle wasn't going on it wouldn't have been so out of place, ya know?

But they clearly explained the injury situation and Vince's statement was presented in the right context minutes apart from what Austin said. I dont see the unintentional comedy there
